Position description

This is a great opportunity for a professional with international non-governmental organization experience. The International Grants Director will manage the grants and budget process, working hand-in-hand with Anera’s development and country teams, to support the continued funding and successful operation of the organization. In this role you will lead the effective preparation of program budgets, monitor contracts and grants management operations to ensure the high quality of grants and budget administration and compliance with legal and donor requirements across programs, conduct any research regarding questions of eligible use of these funds, advise implementation teams on matters related to contract compliance, and engage in the development of systems, tools and processes to institutionalize and build contract management capacity within the organization.

This position supervises one finance and grant manager and reports to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. Responsibilities:

  • Guide cross functional teams in producing and reviewing grant proposal budgets. Ensure donor compliance by creating budget work plans, soliciting input across programs, development, and operations.
  • Support colleagues and the organization’s long-term engagement with grantors and donors, offering strategic advice on grant opportunities with a deep commitment to sustainability of delivering impact at the country level.
  • Oversee the efficient tracking of all grant agreements and contracts funded by the US government, international organizations, and private donors to ensure compliance with financial requirements.
  • Ensure the timely submission and review of financial reports to funders.
  • Ability to interpret grant contracts and research government guidelines in the use, reporting, and monitoring of public funds.
  • Monitor and analyze budget variances. Schedule monthly meetings with the program teams to discuss spending and to make sure grant requirements are being met and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Keep track of the level of work for each employee within the designated program and maintain staff funding runways to give insight into how employees are supported and spot funding shortages.
  • Ensure that all donor contracts, reports, and important communications are archived correctly and kept current.
  • Work with funding agency staff to resolve any issues which may arise over the life of a grant and during the close out upon project completion.
  • Act as a liaison between programs, development and financial teams and systems to ensure continuity, accuracy, and adherence to key processes.
  • Work with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment and Learning (MEAL) team to ensure systems are in place to effectively monitor implementation and control risks, fostering a culture of learning.
  • Support the annual budget planning and the development and reporting of the organization’s Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement (NICRA).

Required Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the global grants landscape with the ability to bring fresh ideas and perspective to the team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, management, legal studies, economics or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in grant accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience and familiarity with U.S. federal OMB, FAR and USAID projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in grant accounting and financial reporting.
  • Prior experience working directly with a non-governmental organization in or with teams working in Latin America, Africa or the Middle East.
  • Fluency in Arabic.

Compensation Statement:

  • Annual Salary Range: $95,000 – $115,000, commensurate with experience. (U.S. Only)
