International Policy Intern

AARP International is looking for you!  Our team helps position AARP as the preeminent global leader in challenging outdated beliefs and sparking new solutions for people to choose how they live as they age. The International team is seeking a creative, analytical, and forward-thinking intern to join our team as we leverage, develop, and champion new insights, thought-provoking ideas backed by evidence, and create bold solutions to address major societal issues. The intern will work closely with team members and have the opportunity to contribute to projects, reports, and engagements that will help advance their careers. This paid internship is anticipated to begin in Fall 2025 and will continue until the end of the year, with the possibility of being extended for an additional semester.

Responsibilities
 

Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:

• Perform a range of tasks depending on the project, research, and communications needs
• Identify and research global thought leaders across numerous industries
• Draft social media copy based on existing International reports
• Stay up to date on trending issues across industries as it relates to global aging and healthy longevity
• Event support, including assisting in logistics surrounding global thought leadership events
• Contribute to production of AARP The Journal, including identifying contributors, drafting invitations, and other tasks necessary for the publication
• Administrative support, including development of a database of International contacts

 

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or postdoctoral student; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
• Pursuing a degree in political science, economics, public policy, communications, or related fields
• This position requires someone with a high degree of organization, the ability to see the “big picture,” and an understanding of the level of detail needed to ensure success along the way
• Creativity and initiative are essential for this role
• Candidates must possess strong attention to detail and an interest in issues related to aging, longevity, health, and financial security
• An entrepreneurial mindset, proactive attitude, and desire to seize opportunities
• Good communication skills, both written and oral, including social media
• Must be a self-starter and adaptable   
• Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
• Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.

 

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
