Description of the Assignment:  The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is funding the “Circular Integrated Aquaculture-Horticulture Systems for Climate Resilience in Namibia (NamiGreen)” project, which will be led by UNDP in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Currently in the Project Implementation Plan (PIP) phase, this project aims to transform Namibia’s aquaculture sector into a primary fish production source by 2030. By integrating an ecosystem approach to inland aquaculture with climate-smart horticultural production, targeting community and household¿level food systems. The project objective is to enhance resilience against climate change, address food supply, income diversification, and value chain development. By leveraging the synergy between horticulture and aquaculture, it also seeks to address multiple environmental challenges. The project is transitioning to a Project Preparation Grant (PPG) phase to develop the GEF-8 Child Project concept into a full project. During this phase, UNDP will work in close collaboration with FAO and the Namibia Food Systems Working Group. The working group, will be co-chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform (MAWLR) and UNDP Namibia Resident Representative (DRR), the group will guide the project to ensure that deliverables are completed on time and in line with UNDP and GEF requirements. It will include representatives from various sectors, MAWLR and Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), representatives of bilateral organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Private Sector, Academia, NCE Safeguards Technical Advisor, RTA and PAs and UNDP CO EFP

 

Period of assignment/services (if applicable): 50 days over 8 months
