Generations For Peace is supporting one of its partners, the Jordan Olympic Committee, in recruiting for the following position:

The Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) is the governing body for sports in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Founded in 1957, the JOC became the nurturing body for 52 Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations and entities in the kingdom, laying down the foundation and trail to develop and rise with the state of sports in Jordan

Position Summary:

The International Relations Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the development and management of international relations and partnerships. This role involves building and maintaining relationships with international sports organizations, Olympic Committees, and other stakeholders. The manager will ensure that our committee is effectively represented and engaged in global sports governance, fostering collaboration and alignment with the Olympic movement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contact and communication with regional and international committees and federations.
  • Follow up on training opportunities and capacity building for workers in federations and the committee through the Olympic Solidarity Programs, the Asian Olympic Council, the International Olympic Committee, international sports federations, and the Union of Arab Committees.
  • Working on building a network of relations with embassies of countries in Jordan, institutions and external bodies, especially foreign supporting and donor institutions, and analyzing the extent to which the committee can benefit from relations with those institutions in cooperation and close coordination with the direct official.
  • Supervising and following up on meetings, conferences and participations of the Committee Chairman and Secretary-General.
  • Follow up on international meetings and annual meetings of Olympic committees and federations at the regional and international levels and participate in them where possible.
  • Follow up on all invitations received by the President and Secretary-General and supervise the preparation of the required documents.
  • Supervising and following up on the registration process of Jordanian delegations participating in the Olympic Committee’s sports tournaments.
  • Building and consolidating a base of relationships with Olympic committees and international federations.
  • Supervising and following up on logistical matters related to external participations in general and specifically for the Committee Chairman, Secretary General and the President’s guests.
  • Writing special reports requested by external parties.
  • Supervision and follow-up of international and regional agreements.
  • Monthly and annual reports on work progress and achievements
  • Participate in preparing operational plans and executive programs for the work and activities of the International Relations Department.
  • And any other matters related to/pertaining to the employee’s work at the Olympic Committee.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in international relations, sports management, or a related field, preferably within a national or international sports organization.
  • Experience in project management or strategic roles within international or sports organizations.
  • Experience in managing large-scale events or international meetings is beneficial.
  • Experience in leading teams or managing projects, particularly in international or sports-related contexts.
  • Experience working in multicultural settings or with international teams.

Professional Competencies:

  • In-depth understanding of the structure and function of international sports organizations, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and other sports federations.
  • Coursework or training in sports management, international law, or global sports policies can be highly beneficial.
  • Proficiency in conducting thorough research and analysis on international sports policies, global trends, and geopolitical factors affecting sports.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for international relations, including setting objectives, identifying opportunities, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Understanding of international sports regulations, policies, and compliance requirements.

Personal Competencies:

  • Strong analytical abilities to assess international relations dynamics, evaluate the impact of various strategies, and address challenges effectively.
  • Problem-solving skills to navigate complex international issues and find practical solutions.
  • High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity to navigate diverse international environments and engage respectfully with global stakeholders.
  • A high level of English language proficiency. Additional language skills relevant to the role, such as French, Spanish or other widely spoken languages, would be beneficial.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, events, and teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
