The Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP), based in Geneva, aims to achieve results for children by maximizing UNICEF’s private fundraising, partnerships, and engagement activities. The Division coordinates and provides global guidance and support to the National Committees for UNICEF and UNICEF country offices in all private sector fundraising (PSFR) and private sector engagement and partnership activities, in cooperation with UNICEF regional offices and other headquarters divisions. 

This internship post is based in the Office of the Director. The Director, Private Fundraising and Partnerships, oversees UNICEF’s global private sector fundraising and partnerships ecosystem spanning all continents. The Director also drives the division’s contribution to UNICEF’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan and the priorities of the division, namely: income (with a special focus on scaling up digital fundraising and optimizing major donor engagement); influence (with a special focus on continuing to mainstream working with business; income and influence from both the public and private sector (through contributing to strengthened engagement by UNICEF in high-income countries and scaling up financing for children); as well as developing effective strategies for fundraising growth in new markets.

How can you make a difference? 

We are looking for a highly organized, creative and dynamic intern to join the Director’s Office and contribute, hands on, to the success of the front office. The incumbent would work under the daily guidance of, and in collaboration with, the Executive Manager and the Senior Executive Associate. The work of a front office is diverse and fast-paced – every day is different and requires agility to cope with emergencies while also maintaining a constant focus on strategic priorities and the improvement of processes related to the management of the division.  

Areas in which the support of the incumbent will be needed include: 

  • Support to management meetings. Support the organization of management meetings, as well as notetaking and the packaging of decisions for further dissemination.  

  • Management processes and governance. Support multiple projects or initiatives aimed at strengthening the management and governance of the division as well as to foster collaboration, agile decision-making and coordination. 

  • Coordination and secretarial support. Provide additional support, as needed, for the organization of the Director’s meetings, including compiling and reviewing briefing notes. Compile and quality-assure the package of briefing notes needed ahead of the Director’s missions. Support correspondence management. Review, as needed, other documents, strategies and policies to extract and summarize information needed for the Director’s Office. 

  • Planning. Support planning processes of the front office, as well as the monitoring of key actions and priorities.  

  • Internal communications. Support internal communication of the Director, as needed. 

  • Support the management of emergencies, as well as risk management and mitigation. 

Modality: Paid – Fulltime 

Tentative start date: 1 March 2024

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have… 

  • Be enrolled in a graduate/undergraduate degree programme in management, international development, project management, business administration, social sciences, partnerships, fundraising, human resources or secretarial studies, or have graduated within the past two years.
  • A keen interest in partnerships with the private sector
  • Previous internship or work experience in a low-income or middle-income country is an asset. Previous experience in the office of a senior official is a strong asset.
  • Experience in project management and fundraising are also assets.
  • A deep interest in excellence in management practices is required.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is a strong asset.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
