The Audience and Market Insights team is looking for an intern to support in identifying, mapping, and quantifying media conversations. The intern will support secondary research efforts related to better understanding UNICEF’s corporate, foundation, and philanthropy partners. This is an opportunity to gain hands on work experience in secondary research methodologies relating to media conversations and analytics.

How can you make a difference?

MAIN TASKS

As part of the AMI team, the Intern will work on supporting our high value audiences with understanding media trends, performing audits of existing research on key topics, and providing analytics for how UNICEF and other organizations of interest show up in online conversations. Under the guidance of the Market Research Manager, the selected candidate will:

  • Month 1:
  • Learning and becoming deeply familiar with media crawling tools like TalkWalker.
  • Learning and creating search term queries/ taxonomies in Boolean.
  • Months 1-6:
  • Conducting analysis of media trends based on clear guidance and research briefs.
  • Performing audits of existing research on key topics outlined in research briefs.
  • Constructing deliverables (e.g Word memos, PPT presentations) to communicate the findings of their analysis.
  • Months 3-6:
  • Creating playbook for templatized analysis of media trends in support of prospecting efforts.
  • Creating framework for secondary research on key fund-raising related topic.

ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT 

(26 weeks) – tentatively starting on 4th of March.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme related to market research and insights, communications, cultural studies, marketing, or in fundraising. Applicants who have graduated within the past two years from these related disciplines will also be considered.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Be proficient in English and have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English. Fluency in other UN working languages will be an asset.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.​​​​​​​

Additional Desirable Qualities 

  • Additional consideration will be given for any past experience of media analysis and analytics, especially familiarity with using TalkWalker.
  • Familiarity and previous experience with Boolean search terms a plus.

Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
