The purpose of the programme is:
- To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
- To benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
- The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.
The Physics Section is responsible for planning and implementing activities in the areas of (i) effective utilization of research reactors, (ii) fostering relevant research and development and applications using particle accelerators and related instrumentation, and (iii) plasma physics and fusion, in order to enable Member States to avail themselves of the benefits of nuclear sciences and technologies. It operates the Nuclear Science and Instrumentation Laboratory, located at the Agency’s Laboratories in Seibersdorf, which assists laboratories in Member States to improve the effective utilization of nuclear spectrometry and related instrumentation by providing technical advice, training, calibration services, assistance with the modification and development of nuclear instruments and with new applications of nuclear spectrometry techniques in various fields, including energy related applications, environmental monitoring, industry, and the study of cultural heritage objects.
Main Purpose:
The Intern will assist in the implementation of activities under the sub-programme 1.4.4. Nuclear fusion science and plasma physics. In particular, the incumbent will assist and support with the:
- Preparation of technical reports;
- Planning and implementation of scientific and technical events;
- Implementation of coordinated research projects;
- Updates of Fusion Portal and relevant data bases.
- Support the preparation of technical reports for submission to Publication Committee as a result of technical and consultancy meetings organized within the sub-programme 1.4.4 Nuclear fusion science and plasma physics;
- Support the management of the Fusion Portal for the dissemination of the information related to the IAEA’s activities in fusion research and development, including creating and developing new content and update of relevant data bases;
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of scientific and technical events on topics related to nuclear fusion research.
- University Degree – Nuclear Physics, Plasma Physics, Nuclear Fusion or related fields
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of fusion research and of the major ongoing national and international activities the field.
- Skills in developing and managing small projects.
- Ability to comprehend technical content and develop technical documents.
- Ability to develop and manage (with assistance) web portals and data bases.
- Demonstrated interest in fusion research internationally.
- Experience in organizing scientific events.
