The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).

The purpose of the programme is:

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
  • To benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
  • The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.
Organizational Setting: 
 
The Division of Budget and Finance manages the financial resources essential for full implementation of the IAEA’s scientific and technical programmes. The Division provides financial services and solutions for programme budgeting, treasury, payments, payroll, financial accounting and reporting to support the IAEA’s mandate.
Main Purpose:
 
As a member of a team led by a Unit/Section Head in the Division of Budget and Finance, the intern will assist in handling diverse financial operations from different business areas using the Agency ERP system (Oracle) and participate in adhoc tasks or projects to improve efficiency of financial operations.

Functions / Key Results Expected: 

Responsibilities of the internship position range widely depending on the assigned unit. They may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists with gathering information and financial data to conduct analysis needed for preparation of financial reports and various change initiatives.
  • Assists with the design, testing and implementation of new solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Assists with the review and documentation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Assists with planning, implementation and monitoring of specific tasks or projects managed by the supervising unit.
  • Assists in drafting reports and meetings minutes and preparing material for presentations.
  • Provide assistance and support with monitoring of financial transactions, reconciliation of accounts month and year-end closing activities and operational activities of the supervising unit.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • University degree in finance, accounting, business administration, information management, mathematics or statistics.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint), strong skills in Excel an asset.
