Contract Duration
Interns are required to work full time for a period between three and six months (to be agreed to prior to commencement). Internship placements shall usually not be extended beyond six months.
The starting date of the internship may vary, upon agreement. Candidates can be recruited for a time period shorter than 6 months. Applications of candidates indicating availability beyond the present selection cycle may be considered in the context of the next selection cycle.
The Opportunity
The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and, where warranted, tries individual charges with the gravest crimes of concerns to the international community: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression. The Court is participating in the global fight to end impunity, and through international criminal justice, the Court aims to hold those responsible accountable for their crimes and to help prevent the crimes from happening again. Organisational Context
The Integrated Services Division (ISD) within the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) centralizes the specialized support functions that provide cross-cutting support to the Office. The Division is headed by a Director who is responsible for managing the reliable and cost-effective delivery of integrated services and ensuring that the OTP is adequately supported through all relevant service functions, technologies and equipment, and that appropriate services are available to allow the implementation of the Office’s mandate. The services include planning and operations, witness protection and management, information knowledge and evidence management, forensic science, language and administrative support. The Division works to develop new approaches and strategies that promote the use of modern tools and advanced technology as mechanisms to strengthen the effectiveness of the Office.
Duties & Responsibilities
The incumbent will work in the Language Services Unit of the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) under the broad supervision of the Head of Unit. The incumbent will perform the following duties:

Assist in handling the administrative and deployment processes (travel, contract, security clearance, visas, transport, outsourcing, etc.) in the LSU work areas;

Assist the Head of Unit and LSU Coordinators in recruitment matters, notably by sourcing, identifying and contacting potential candidates and experts on needed languages;

Assist in handling the administrative processes in recruiting, inducting and hiring language staff and experts;

Assist in creating and maintaining the required contact and request databases and files, and extract and compile statistics for reports and projections;

Assist in providing the Head of Unit and LSU Coordinators with research, IT and other support as required;

Assist in creating and maintaining the Intranet and Extranet sites
Essential Qualifications
Education:
All candidates must have a degree or be in the final stages of their studies at a recognized university preferably in administration and/or related field (such as Human Resources), social science, linguistics/languages, translation, interpretation, or business administration. Studies in Computational Linguistics or Artificial Intelligence are considered an asset.
Experience:
Internship placements focus on candidates in the early stages of their professional careers. Practical experience is not an essential prerequisite for selection. However, practical experience that is relevant to the work of the Court may be considered an asset.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Able to adapt to multicultural and multilingual working environments.

Possesses strong teamwork skills (listens, consults and communicates proactively).

Very good oral communication and drafting skills.

Has acquired a good standard of computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications) and research skills (including the use of electronic databases).
Knowledge of Languages:
Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, French or English, is required. Working knowledge of the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an asset. Knowledge of any situation language would also be considered an asset.

Remuneration
Please note that internship and visiting professional placements at the ICC are unfunded. The ICC is not able to provide participants in the Internship and Visiting Professional Programme with any remuneration, nor is it possible to provide reimbursement for expenses incurred prior, during or after the internship or visiting professional placement.
Applicants must therefore be able to support themselves for the entire duration of their internship or visiting professional placement.
