Department

The Department of Multilateral Partnerships and Development Cooperation (PARTNERSHIPleads, coordinates and promotes the ILO’s involvement in the UN system and cooperation with other multilateral organizations. In doing so, it cooperates with the ILO Offices in New York, Washington and in other locations hosting international organizations. PARTNERSHIPS also establishes and develops strategic partnerships in close interaction with other clusters and the regions. It is responsible for developing the ILO’s strategy for development cooperation and it leads consultations and negotiations with development cooperation partners. It is responsible for mobilization of voluntary contributions for the ILO’s programme as well as for coordinating development and financial reporting to funding partners. Finally, it facilitates, in close collaboration with other portfolios, the streamlining of work processes and procedures, and provides assistance to enhance service delivery in the field.

The current internship relates to the Development Cooperation Support Unit (DCSin PARTNERSHIPS. DCSU deals with development cooperation (Dpolicies, ensures quality assurance of proposals for ILO’s development cooperation programmes and projects, provides project development design support, delivers staff development on project cycle management and DC, develops statistical data on ILO’s DC portfolio, and facilitates communication as well as knowledge sharing in the area of ILO’s development cooperation. Many of these areas are supported by online platforms (e.g. SharePoin, websites or dashboards.

Learning area

The Intern will support the DCSU team in the areas of design support, the preparation of Development Cooperation learning journeys for ILO staff and development of practical tools, communication and knowledge products and activities related to the ILO’s development cooperation portfolio.

The Intern will work in close communication with the team in DCSU, other staff in PARTNERSHIPS as well as with staff at the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin. In addition, the Intern will exchange with ILO development cooperation practitioners in the field and at HQ.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of DCSU, and in close consultation with other relevant colleagues in PARTNERSHIPS, the Intern will carry out the following tasks:

Assist in the implementation of an enhanced design support facility by supporting the establishment of a roster of project design consultants, the formulation of terms of reference, monitoring of design support activities; organization of a workshop with the design consultants, development of design guidance, etc.;

Assist in research and formulation of analytical briefs, papers and presentations related to development cooperation within the ILO and the UN at large;

Assist in the appraisal of project documents, and the monitoring of the appraisal workflow;

Assist users of the DC Dashboard and develop FAQs, graphs and infographics on ILO DC data;

Generally support the development, dissemination and upload of posts, news items, videos. tools, etc. in the Development Cooperation Community of Practice, the DC learning journeys platform, PARTNERSHIPS and/or ILO intra and internet announcements, etc.;

Assist with answering internal and external inquiries, including research, gathering, consolidating and presenting information in a timely manner relevant to the specific audience.

Education

International Relations, International Development, Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, or related fields.

The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago (mandator.

Experience

Research and/or work experience in development cooperation, Project Cycle Management or related topic as well as knowledge of applications such as SharePoint, Teams, Excel, would be an advantage.

Languages

Working (both oral and writteknowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanis.

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, field offices will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department or field office within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the fiel.
