Department

The Intern will support the ESPU team in the areas of emerging partnerships, supporting the current databases on the engagement of emerging partners on the social justice coalition, it will support the ITC Turin trainings related to the support to SSTC-RBTC (South-South contribution and allocation to the Turin center for peer learning on issues related to the decent work agenda, in particular, SDG and UN reform, integrating global south concerns in Skills development, and fragility, among others. 

 

The Intern will work with the team in ESPU, other staff in PARTNERSHIPS as well as with staff at the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin. In addition, the Intern will ex-change with ILO development cooperation practitioners in the field and at HQ.    

 

Under the overall supervision of the Head of ESPU, and in close consultation with other relevant colleagues in PARTNERSHIPS, the Intern will carry out the following tasks:

 

– Support activities that raise awareness  and share knowledge on SSTC in the field of decent work,  through the preparation and support to the organization of webinars, collect good practices sharing and the compilation and dissemination of capacity building activities and tools for ILO constituents, as well as the SSTC Academies and South-South and triangular cooperation fora;

 

– Assist in research and formulation of analytical briefs, papers and presentations related to development cooperation within the ILO and the UN at large;

 

– With the support of the Special Partnerships function, support the design, implementation, and disseminate SSTC initiatives involving universities, local governments and parliamentarians. 

 

– Support ITC Turin trainings related to the RBTC-SSTC contributions, liaising with technical units and supporting the integration of South-South methodologies.

 

– Support to new South-South and triangular cooperation partnerships promoted, initiated and monitored, enhancing stronger relations with emerging and special partners from the “Global South”;

 

– Support to Substantive partnerships with international organizations, parliamentarians and parliamentary organisations, the international civil society, the academia, local governments developed and supported”.

Learning area

The Department of Multilateral Partnerships and Development Cooperation (PARTNERSHIPS) leads, coordinates and promotes the ILO’s involvement in the UN system and cooperation with other multilateral organizations. In doing so, it cooperates with the ILO Offices in New York, Washington and in other locations hosting international organizations. PARTNERSHIPS also establishes and develops strategic partnerships in close interaction with other clusters and the regions. It is responsible for developing the ILO’s strategy for development cooperation and it leads consultations and negotiations with development cooperation partners. It is responsible for mobilization of voluntary contributions for the ILO’s programme as well as for coordinating development and financial reporting to funding partners. Finally, it facilitates, in close collaboration with other portfolios, the streamlining of work processes and procedures, and provides assistance to enhance service delivery in the field. 

The current internship relates to the Emerging and Special Partnerships Unit (ESPU) in PARTNERSHIPS. ESPU deals with engagement of the ILO with new and ongoing emerging and special partnerships and South-South and triangular cooperation. ESPU is responsible for developing the ILO’s strategy on South–South and triangular cooperation (SSTC). It leads consultations and negotiations with development cooperation partners from the Global South and is responsible for mobilizing voluntary contributions from emerging partners for the ILO’s programme and for coordinating technical and financial reporting to development partners from G77+ China and other emerging partners.  ESPU is responsible for developing and reinforcing partnerships of key strategic importance to promote the Decent Work Agenda (DWA), including with the Global South, parliamentarians, International Organizations, Civil Society, Academia, local governments, and faith-based organizations.
 

Education

International Relations, International Development, Educational Sciences, Social Sciences, or related fields.

The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago. 
 

Experience

Research and/or work experience in development cooperation, Project Cycle Management or related topic as well as knowledge of applications such as SharePoint, Teams, Excel, would be an advantage.

Languages

Working (both oral and written) knowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanish). Knowledge of Spanish is an asset for this South-South assignment.

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Selection process:

 

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster. 

 

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

 

Stipend:

 

As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.

 

Insurance:

 

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
