The Regional Economic and Social Analysis (RESA) unit of the ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific oversees and promotes multi-country, multi-disciplinary and inter-sectoral policy analysis related to key issues and themes of relevance to decent work and inclusive growth. The unit is involved in research, data collection of labour statistics, and labour market analysis in keeping with ILO global, regional and national priorities set out in the Centenary Declaration on the Future of Work, and more recently, in the Global Call to Action for a Human-Centred Recovery that is inclusive, sustainable and resilient.
Specific areas of work include: production of briefs, reports and blogs on regional labour and social issues with a view to advocating action towards the ILO’s vision of decent work and inclusive growth for all; strengthen the conceptual relationship with multilateral policy frameworks, including SDGs; develop and implement joint research activities and policy dialogues with regional organizations and academic partners; provide technical assistance to countries in the region to collect, process, analyze and make available gender and age disaggregated statistical data to measure decent work, including through SDG indicators; contribute to the regions knowledge management initiatives in order to stimulate knowledge sharing amongst countries and sub-regions; and as may be requested, provide technical support to other ILO colleagues, ILO offices and constituents in the Region for the calculation of basic labour statistics from ILOSTAT or from the ILO microdata repository.
- As an intern in RESA, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as
- Compile national and regional economic and labour market statistics from official national and international sources;
- Contribute to collections of evaluation studies of relevant ILO policy areas (labour market, social protection, wage setting, etc.) and coding for inclusion in meta-analysis of “good practices”;
- Undertake background research on various economic and decent work-related topics, for example inequality, productivity and wages, migration, informality, and employment and social trends;
- Draft internal background notes with a focus on specific country and thematic issues and contribute to the production of ILO reports and publications, including on issues relating to future of work;
- Contribute to the preparation and planning of ILO meetings and workshops involving tripartite constituents;
- Support other related work of RESA as needed.
Education:
- The candidate should hold a master’s degree or be finishing a master’s degree in economics, statistics, social sciences and/or a related field.
Experience:
- Some experience in the compilation of economic and labour market statistics and research and quantitative analysis of labour markets and/or related area(s) would be an advantage. Familiarity with MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint) and statistical software such as Stata or SPSS
Languages:
- Excellent written and spoken English; working knowledge of another Asia-Pacific language would be a distinct advantage.
