Focusing on the public sector, UNICEF’s Public Partnerships Division works to achieve two outcomes: 1) The rights and interests of children are effectively translated into policies, programmes and budgets of public partners at all levels; and 2) Adequate, flexible and predictable resources are mobilized and leveraged to achieve results for children.

How can you make a difference?

The UN Partnerships Team in UNICEF’s Public Partnerships Division in New York is looking for an intern to support the team in shaping and building partnerships to achieve results for children worldwide.

This is an exciting opportunity to obtain an in-depth understanding of the functioning of UNICEF and its work, from high-level political engagement to liaising with colleagues in the field, at country and regional level and across headquarters divisions.

Under the supervision of the Public Partnership Manager, the intern will support various aspects of external relations, knowledge management and development of strategies and approaches to relevant thematic areas.

Main tasks include:

  • Analyze United Nations Development System survey results to Country Representatives
  • Provide a strategic analysis of ECOSOC discussions
  • Support analysis of the latest UN Reforms – UN80
  • Follow Executive Board sessions, providing accurate readouts of relevant segments
  • Support in the coordination of UNICEF strategic engagement in assigned multilateral and interagency fora (UNSDG, CEB, HLCM, HLCP, EC/DC)
  • Support in preparing briefing notes and any other documentation required for participation of Senior Staff in relevant meetings
  • Organize consultations and other convenings with assigned partners, including by preparing meetings readouts
  • Support the Office’s knowledge management, reinforcing institutional memory and regularly updating the Team’s intranet pages
  • Manage day-to-day contacts with colleagues and focal points in UNICEF, sister agencies and UN Headquarters
  • Maintain up-to-date information on UNICEF positions on relevant topics
  • Draft social media content highlighting the work of the UN Partnerships team and UN Reform
  • Support interagency meeting preparations for principals, i.e. Joint Meeting of the Boards.
  • Any other task as required.

  • Guidance in relation to training opportunities within the field of expertise
  • Access to UNICEF’s mentoring programmes as available

Participation in missions or training courses

The intern will have access to a wide range of PPD/UNICEF knowledge sharing and capacity-building opportunities, e.g., thematic webinars and online trainings.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have?

  • Recent graduate with a master’s degree, or currently enrolled in a graduate programme, in International Relations, Social Sciences, Development or related field, including a relevant background and interest in these topic
  • Very good command of Microsoft Office working environment and applications, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset

Remarks:

Visa Information: Interns will be responsible for obtaining their G-4 visa before traveling to United States. They will not be permitted to enter the United States without a valid G-4 visa. UNICEF will only issue guidance and a letter stating acceptance of an individual as an intern/fellow and the conditions governing the Internship/Fellowship.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to starting his/her work.

Living and Working Conditions: The internship is fulltime (40 hours per week) and in-person, remote-based or hybrid.
