Stretching from Mongolia in the North to Tonga in the South, UNICEF’s East Asia & Pacific Regional Office, based in Bangkok Thailand, covers one of the most diverse and dynamic areas in world. Each year around 30 million children are born, and UNICEF is there to help protect and promote their rights. The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), as the most ratified human rights instrument in history, as well as the Convention for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities (CRPD) represent the backbone of UNICEF’s engagement across all its functional areas of work and a key tool to hold state authorities accountable to their obligation of leaving none behind. EAPR Regional Office, in cooperation with other relevant international partners is committed to utilize to the maximum potential the human rights mechanisms ensure that access to human rights and related services will be a reality for every child.
- Provide support in implementing the Child Rights agenda for the Child Protection team of the UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office and country offices as necessary.
- Assist with drafting thematic analyses and presentations on emerging Child Rights concerns in the region.
- Support the compilation of outstanding Human Rights concluding observations and recommendations in the region.
- Facilitate the rollout of the Child Rights agenda in other areas of Child Protection and collaborate with other sections of the Regional Office, such as Education, Health, Nutrition, and WASH.
- Help develop and maintain the EAPRO SharePoint Collaboration for Child Rights.
- Support the implementation review and strengthening of key child protection frameworks in ASEAN, including on the elimination of violence against children and on online exploitation and abuse of children.
- Support the convening of the 3rd ASEAN ICT Forum on Child Online Protection.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Enrollment in an advanced university degree (Master’s or higher)
- Experience in working on/researching child rights, human rights and/or child protection issues
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Experience of work in developing countries is considered an asset
- Fluency in English
