Internship (PAID): Communication and Advocacy

Since 1952, UNICEF has been working closely with the government of Jordan and other partners – promoting, protecting, meeting and reporting on the rights of children in the country. UNICEF’s programme in Jordan works to strengthen systems with a goal of reaching all vulnerable children. To achieve this, UNICEF works with the public and private sector, as well as youth-led groups, civil society and academic institutions to build national capacity and resilience. UNICEF Jordan is looking for an intern with excellent communication skills to support our advocacy and external communications for children’s rights.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is leader in the region for the rights of its children. Working closely with the Government of Jordan, civil society, the private sector and communities, UNICEF Jordan Country Office aims to sustain results achieved for children to date, and strive to further improve policies, national institutions and programmes, for the well-being of every child in Jordan, in line with Jordan’s Vision 2025 and the National Human Resources Development Strategy (2016-2025) towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Our programmes focus on improving the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the Kingdom, irrespective of their nationality, gender, religion or background. Our main pillars include: Child Protection; Education; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Adolescent and Youth Engagement; Health and Nutrition; Social Protection; and Operations.

 

How can you make a difference? 

Under the supervision of UNICEF Jordan Country Representative, the Communication and Advocacy intern will be responsible for supporting our advocacy and external communications for children’s rights. Specific tasks are highlighted below:

• Collect and help produce testimonials, stories, photos, videos, digital multimedia content for external communication with multiple stakeholders including media and donors.
• Write stories showcasing impact of UNICEF programmes on the lives of children, youth and their families and prepare compelling, web-friendly articles ahead of key moments in the calendar.
• Support missions, visits, events with photography, video, social media coverage as requested.
• Work with the Design and Brand Officer to integrate brand building into the work of the office and to design donor-friendly communication packages to share with the private and public sectors on key flagship programmes.
• Support the research and development of knowledge management products and case studies demonstrating impact to support external communication and enable resource mobilization.
• Assist with the organization of key public events by working closely with the Communication team and external partners.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have? 

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme – or have graduated within the past two years – in communications, international relations, marketing, digital media, journalism, or other field related to the position.
• Have a good understanding of communications, project management and branding.
• Have experience with event planning, production and coordination.
• Have strong writing, editing and research skills.
• Have general understanding and interest in world affairs, current events and development issues.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to selected candidates who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.
