UNICEF Sri Lanka has developed a strategy to engage the private sector and collaborate in advancing child rights, including addressing most urgent needs of children. At the core of the strategy is establishing a shared vision for children and leveraging joint efforts to optimize results. In this regard, UNICEF will seek to establish partnerships with the corporate sector and High net worth individuals based on shared values to deliver upon UNICEF’s strategic vision for children.

Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships, the intern reports to the Resource Mobilization Officer and is responsible for research, tracking and analysis of the private sector space and support the strategic direction, proposition development, management, growth and renewal of these high value partnerships. This intern will work closely with the different UNICEF departments and others to deliver the desired outcomes.

Purpose:

This internship’s overall purpose is to support the Resource Mobilization Officer in carrying out the Private Sector Fund Raising functions. This will entail background research and analysis on a determined set of priority partners and prospects. 

 

Key tasks and responsibilities

Under the supervision of Resource Mobilization Officer, the intern will be responsible for implementing following tasks:

•    Research on Prospective Private Sector Partners and high net worth individuals shared by the Resource Mobilization Officer and develop a prospect list which is regularly updated and monitored on the status of the relationship

  • Regular coordination with program sections to support them and support the identification of engagement opportunities which can match with interest areas of the prospects.
  • With the guidance and support of the Resource Mobilization Officer, coordinate with the existing partners to monitor the progress of the ongoing partnerships through virtual and in person meetings, a through reporting tools.
  • Support the implementation of private sector funded initiatives, including ensuring adherence to targets, timelines and reporting.
  • Support the fine tuning of presentations and reports when required for internal, external, and regional meetings.
  • Document the success stories, case studies and human-interest stories of the partnerships together with the comms team and in coordination with the partners, with guidance from the Resource Mobilization Officer and/or the Communications Officer
  • Perform other tasks as required.

 

Cost/Expenses:

Interns receive a stipend from UNICEF and must make their own arrangements for living expenses.

Living accommodation and other expenses are their own responsibilities.

Stipend (monthly): LKR 109,370/- per month (five days a week) 

Travel: N/A

 

Insurance:

• UNICEF accepts no responsibility for costs or fatality arising from illness or accidents incurred during the internship; therefore, the intern must have adequate medical insurance.

• Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical and life/accident insurance for the duty station for which they will work.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Key competences, technical background, and experience required:

A) Required Education, Skills, and Experiences:

• Recently completed a University Degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Communication, Business Administration, or any other relevant area

• At least one year experience (full time/ part time) in the fields of Marketing, Communication, Partnerships

• Experience in developing communication assets and publications; and basic understanding about the digital landscape in the country

• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills

• Excellent computer literacy (Microsoft Office products)

 

B) Functional Competencies:

• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines

• Accuracy and professionalism during the documentation and content production

• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at diverse levels

• Experience of working with UN (United Nations) is an asset but not a prerequisite

• Recent leadership in child/youth/CSO movements and networks is an asset

 

C) Language Proficiency:

• Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

• A general ability to speak in Sinhala or Tamil will be an advantage

 

Duration: 24 weeks  

 

Intern Status within UNICEF:

• Interns are considered gratis personnel and as such they are not staff members.

• Although not considered a staff member of UNICEF, the intern shall be subject to the authority of the Executive Director and the authority delegated by her to Director and Heads of Offices. Interns are not entitled to the privileges and immunities accorded by member states to UNICEF’s officials and staff members.

• Interns may not be sought or accepted as substitutes for staff to be recruited against authorized posts.

• Interns may not represent UNICEF in any official capacity.

 

Other Relevant Information

• The candidate selected will be governed by and subject to UNICEF’s General Terms and Conditions for interns.

• As an intern, you will respect the confidentiality of information that you collect or are exposed to at UNICEF. No reports or papers may be published based on information obtained from UNICEF without the explicit written authorization by the Head of Office or Division Director.

• The UNICEF internship program is not connected with employment and there is no expectancy of such. Interns cannot apply for posts advertised internally to UNICEF staff during the internship period.
