Under the guidance of the Program Manager, and the direct supervision of the Planning Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) Specialist, the intern(s) will provide support and operational assistance to various processes in researching, collecting, analyzing, and presenting data as well as field monitoring of specific program intervention and analysis while learning about PME processes to support the implementation of the workplan advancing the rights of children.

Background & Scope of Work

Planning Monitoring & Evaluation at UNICEF Guyana and Suriname is an essential function to assess if progress is made in achieving the expected results of programs and projects for children in Suriname and Guyana, identify bottlenecks in implementation and make necessary adjustments, promote accountability of results and support continuous learning and improvement including the generation of high-quality evidence and learnings to inform the pathway to scale.
UNICEF Guyana and Suriname works with a wide range of actors and partners, including children and their families, ministries, local governments, parliamentarians, non-governmental organizations, the media, public private sector regional and international organizations working with children. The planning Monitoring and Evaluation focuses on updates of the situation of children and women in the country, report about child rights, evaluations, and studies. Under the supervision of the PM&E Specialist, the intern will be engaged in the process of desk research, preparing documents, and finding information and data to support updates of the situation analysis as well as coordination work related to specific program interventions. In addition to these tasks, ad hoc tasks might be requested to support the general work of the PM&E. Benefits to Intern as part of the PM&E at UNICEF office in Suriname and Guyana is that the interns will be introduced to work across other programs of the organization. The interns will learn about and participate in program planning, coordination and monitoring, policy and program discussions. The intern will get a better sense of how UNICEF office operates as one office in two countries (Guyana and Suriname).

Specifically, the intern:
• Shall develop the M&E framework to monitor and evaluate specific program interventions in the pilot mental health and wellbeing program in district Nickerie which will include on-site field monitoring.
• Shall prepare key data to visualize the needs of children and the main areas of interventions needed to ensure that their rights are fulfilled.
• Shall also support other initiatives led by PM&E related to monitoring, evaluation, learning, and knowledge sharing.

Duration of Contract
Three (3) months REPORTING TO Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have the below qualifications and requirements: 

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or have graduated within the past two years in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, political sciences, or another relevant social science field. • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records
• Good command of application of software such as Microsoft Office applications, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Strong research and analytical skills and ability to synthesize concepts and material into clear and concise thoughts.
• Strong writing skills and ability to present complex information concisely and understandably.
• Knowledge of SPSS, Stata, or any other data analysis software is an advantage.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Language Proficiency – Good working proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Other requirements and Eligibility
Selected Interns must be at least 18 years old and should submit: – Verification from the college or university that the intern is currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme or is a recent graduate (2 years after degree completion is considered as recent). It should also state the expected graduation date. – One letter of signed recommendation on letterhead or from a professional email address. – The intern should use his/her personal computer during the length of the internship.
