Who are we?

The Program Innovation and Business Engagement (PIBE) team works to promote programme innovation throughout the organisation and develop strategic partnerships for the achievement of DRC’s strategic objectives as set out in our Strategy 2025. We are a small and dynamic team, and we work with a wide range of colleagues, in HQ and across our regional offices and country programmes. We work with external partners incl. private sector and are key to DRC’s effort to source new inspiration, knowledge, partnerships and opportunities for people affected by forced displacement.

The PIBE team comprises 4 full-time staff, and one student assistant, at HQ (Copenhagen), alongside 4 full-time staff based in the UK and East Africa.

About the internship

The internship is hosted in DRC’s HQ in the Programme Innovation and Business Engagement division. The intern will report to the Innovation Support and Learning lead. The start of the internship will coincide with finalisation of key innovation tools and methodologies to be integrated into our work across DRC. As such the areas of support provided by the intern include the following:

  • Contribute to rolling out innovation tools and methodologies across the organization, incl. Developing high quality material (powerpoints etc.) with a clear and compelling visual identity.
  • Support the planning and execution of DRC Innovation Forum 2024 and other learning events and workshops, through preparation of background material, coordination with event participants and presenters and logistics etc.
  • Contribute to PIBE’s 2024 ambition of creating a culture of innovation throughout DRC, in particular through support to- and facilitation of a new innovation community of practice within the organisation.
  • Assist in ensuring the success of new innovation projects rolled out across the organisation, for example, informing projects through desk research and identifying peer support and learning opportunities.
  • Draft and support internal and external communication.

We offer flexibility in the type of tasks and assignments, and we will together with you develop a plan for the internship so you can build on your unique skills, talent and aspirations and aim to make the internship relevant to your line of study.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to be action-oriented, have an engaging personality and demonstrate competence in leading on communication pieces. Interest and understanding around innovation practices across the humanitarian and development sectors is desirable.

All employees and interns in DRC should master DRC’s core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

Furthermore we also expect the following:

  • Technical skills to support the facilitation and organising of workshops
  • Ability to competently and independently conduct desk reviews and research pieces
  • Strong communications skills in English (Danish is an advantage, but not required)
  • Proven design skills in Canva or similar software are desirable
  • Enrolled in a relevant master programme (social sciences, international relations, climate studies or similar) with an interest to pursue a career in international development or humanitarian affairs
  • Genuine passion to help change people’s lives for better and offer support to improve DRC’s ability to engage strategically in climate forums and funding opportunities

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.

 

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located Borgergade 10, Copenhagen

Start date: Mid-August. We will do our best to be flexible on the start date if needed.

End Date: 31st January (negotiable)

Working hours: Approximately 30 hours per week, subject to study requirements and further dialogue. We offer flexibility when you have study obligations next to the internship.

 

The internship is not paid but we offer:

  • 2 (unpaid) vacation days per month. The days can either be spent as you earn them or be accumulated
  • Free lunch in our canteen (subject to our canteen being open)
  • Free participation in our Summer/Winter party (subject to dates)

Please note that if you do not have the right to work in Denmark (through nationality or existing work visa), you will need to apply for it if selected for the internship.
