The EMOPS IAHP section is looking for a dynamic intern to provide support in dealing with the humanitarian partnerships with other UN agencies and other humanitarian organizations, including International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), international and local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

UNICEF’s role in emergencies is to protect children and women, ensure the rigorous application of international standards covering their rights and provide them with assistance. UNICEF works with many partners to ensure that this assistance is reliable, effective and timely. While UNICEF integrates approaches to emergency programmes and policies throughout its divisions, the coordination of its humanitarian response is done by the Office of Emergency Programmes (EMOPS). The Inter-Agency Humanitarian partnerships (IAHP) section deals with the humanitarian partnerships with other UN agencies and other humanitarian organizations, including International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Organizations (IOs), and local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

How can you make a difference?

  • Support collection and analysis of data on the collaboration between UNICEF and IFRC at country, regional and global level. Prepare and update relevant factsheets, including key funding data for UNICEF’s partnerships with IFRC and national societies of Red Cross/Red Crescents.
  • Support the roll-out of the UNICEF-IFRC joint action plan and implementation of joint activities at country level.
  • Support the work of the UNHCR -UNICEF Strategic Collaboration Framework within all aspects of secretariat support to the Joint Coordination Meeting (JCT), regional and country office rollout.
  • Support the work of the IOM /UNICEF Collaboration Framework within all aspects of humanitarian action.
  • Assist in organizing and preparing events and meetings with IFRC, UNHCR, IOM and other UN/IO.
  • Attend and report on meetings, conferences and other events related to humanitarian partnerships (as assigned).
  • Any other task that is relevant to the work of the IAHP section.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have?

Minimal Qualifications

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in International Law, International Relations/Affairs, Political Science, Law, or Social sciences.
  • Fluency in English and in another UN language (e.g., Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office.
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.

Desirable qualifications and skills

  • Interest in child rights, international law, humanitarian response
  • Strong organizational skills and experience in organizing/coordinating events, meetings and/or conferences
  • Excellent drafting skills (meeting minutes, notes, reports, communication materials)
  • Research, data analysis, data visualization and information management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Zoom including conferencing
  • Flexibility, diplomatic and teamwork skills, professional and personal integrity

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Duration: The selected candidate will undertake the full-time role for 6 months.

Location: Selected intern will be working full-time in-person in Geneva and will be governed by and subject to UNICEF’s General Terms and Conditions for interns. Working hours at the duty station are from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. Geneva time.

Visa: The intern will be responsible for obtaining any visa required for them to travel to live and work in Switzerland; though the IAHP section will offer guidance on how to complete this process.

Stipend: In accordance with UNICEF’s guidelines, selected intern will be provided a monthly stipend to cover the duration of the candidate’s internship based on the assignment location. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance: For Geneva-based internship, UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan with coverage in Switzerland prior to starting his/her internship. HR will share additional information about Swiss mandatory insurance and taxation in due time with the selected intern.

Mandatory Courses: Selected intern will be requested to complete online mandatory courses prior to commencement of the internship.

Equipment: UNICEF will provide IT equipment to the selected candidate as this is an in-person internship.

Leave: Selected intern may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota. The quota is cumulative over the duration of the internship, but there will be no compensation or carry-over to another appointment for unused leave days at the end of the internship.
