About Frontline Services

Frontline Services is a relatively new program, still in transition, born of the merging of our front desk, harm reduction and food services. Frontline services works as a collaborative team (Food Pantry Coordinator, Front Desk Coordinator and Intervenant sur Place) with separate dossiers, the backbone of which is the front desk. The front desk is the hub of Head and Hands: it connects people with all the different programs and refers externally when necessary.we also have a handful of other small services like computer access, donations. We also offer and manage a handful of other services open to the community.

The Intervenant sur Place Position

The Intervenant sur Place is responsible for materials related to harm reduction ie condoms, drug gear and info pamphlets. They are the point person for questions, policy and best practice around harm reduction. The bulk of their work takes place at the front desk, dealing directly with service users. Intervenant sur Place works in close collaboration with the Frontline Services team. 

Harm reduction services:

  • Ordering and management of harm reduction materials
  • Updating and implementing best practices around harm reduction materials and services
  • Leading interventions around crisis and conflict de-escalation and overdose

Front Desk

  • Maintain a welcoming, tidy, and safe space for service users and community members in our reception area
  • Triage and assess service user needs (through phone, email, or drop in) and provide information, resources, and referrals 
  • Support training new staff, volunteers and interns

Intervenant sur Place and Front Line Team:

  • Participate in supervision, team meetings and occasional larger staff meetings
  • Working closely with the Front line team to support food and harm reduction services
  • Working collaboratively with other Head and Hands staff and programs.

Requirements & Assets

Requirements: 

  • Bilingual in French & English (written and spoken)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Enjoys working with the public
  • Enjoys working in collaborative team settings
  • Experience and proficiency with crisis intervention, conflict de-escalation 
  • Experience and proficiency with overdose prevention and response
  • Strong time management skills, personal organization, and attention to detail 
  • Ability to use MS word, google calendar, google sheets
  • A commitment to harm reduction and social justice

Assets:

  • Experience working in non-profit sector, community organizations, and/or within collective structures 
  • Comfort/fluency in a third language 
  • Experience working with youth or marginalized groups
  • Connections to or background with NDG and its communities
