THE ROLE

As part of the OIGI Intake team, the position’s main purpose is to contribute and support with conducting preliminary reviews of complaints and allegations, working closely with a team of subject-matter experts. The incumbent is expected to be included in all phases of the intake process, performing basic analysis, applying relevant standards and guidance principles, and collecting preliminary data, to support the recommendation to proceed or not with an allegation.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Contribute to and/or undertake less complex office and field-based investigations into allegations of violations of policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Contribute to and/or prepare reports and ad hoc briefs pertaining to investigations and, based on analysis and findings, make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Contribute to assessments of the potential for fraud and corruption in operational activities.
  • Coordinate with local officials, governments, and external organizations and obtain their support such as interpreters or facts providers to facilitate investigative work.
  • Effectively work and coordinate with other control and monitoring functions as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures and share best practices/lessons learnt from investigative work.
  • Other as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • University degree in Criminology, Investigations, Law, Audit, Accounting or other related fields.
  • Formal training and/or certification in various law enforcement methodologies/fraud examination or investigation is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Typically three years or more of relevant professional experience in contributing and/or conducting criminal or administrative investigations.
  • Previous experience in the conduct of investigations with a UN organization or international financing institution and working in developing countries is an asset.

Language:

  • Written and oral proficiency (native or fluent) in English is essential for this position.
  • Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).

  • Good understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to investigations and practical use of investigation techniques.
  • Familiarity with the use of various research methodologies and sources, including electronic sources and databases.
  • Knowledge of how to collect and handle facts/evidence related to investigations.
  • Business acumen.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management skills.
