Job Summary
This position will be based within the London team and will be focused on supporting the quality control structures for DTM analytic outputs worldwide (analysis and reporting) as well as contributing to the global level thematic workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Objectives:
- DTM Methodologies and Data Collection Approaches
Objective: Develop a detailed understanding of the four methodological components of DTM data collection and how they are implemented in the field. Learn how data collection approaches impact the data that is collected and how that data should be analyzed.
2. Data Analysis and Reporting
Objective: Become proficient in preparing analysis and drafting reports on operational human mobility data for operational audiences implementing programs. Learn how to prepare advocacy data points for senior management and other audiences.
3. Country and Regional Response Context
Objective: Develop a detailed understanding of the humanitarian, and post crisis response in DTM countries and how data supports interventions.
Key Results: To provide operational reporting support to DTM Country and Regional offices.
Common to all interns in the AKO unit:
- Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data, as tasked by the DTM AKO unit
- Facilitate the logistical organization of webinars in support of the DTM unit to ensure regular internal and external updates on human mobility and displacement;
- If necessary, in coordination with DTM Country Missions provide updates on human mobility trends, changes and any other significant observations surrounding human mobility and displacement in the respective context;
- Assist the DTM Country Missions and teams in London in the production and quality control of documents;
- Coordinate with other units of the global DTM support team to ensure continuity of functional workflows
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the London team when needed;
- Provide support in analysis and interpretation of data as well as in review of DTM documents requiring remote assistance to DTM Missions, at their request;
- Assist in the refinement of DTM’s data collection methodologies and questionnaires, identifying good practices and providing recommendations for improvement;
- Support technical training of other staff, including through the organization of dedicated webinars;
- Perform any other tasks as assigned
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited academic institution in a field of study related to Economics / Development Economics, Data Science, Political Science, Social Science, Development Studies, Public health, Epidemiology or other relevant disciplines with a significant quantitative component. Alternatively, a bachelor’s/undergraduate degree in the abovementioned fields with demonstrable relevant working experience.
Required
- Experience drafting analytic outputs
- Experience in quantitative research methods
Advantageous
- Experience or demonstrable interest in one or more of the global thematic workstreams.
- Experience organizing webinars, training sessions and other events
- Experience working with R (programming language), including at least three of the following
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS/QGIS
- Experience with other coding languages (e.g. Python) and relational databases (inc. SQL)
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Experience in qualitative research methods
- Experience using data visualization and publication software such as the Adobe suite (Illustrator and InDesign)
For this position, fluency in English and Spanish is required (oral and written). Desirable: working knowledge of French or Arabic.

- IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
