Job Summary

Working under the overall direction of the Programme Support Officer, the intern will assist with the innovative initiatives of the Mission.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision
  • The successful candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Programme Support Officer.
Learning Objectives
  • Designing innovative approaches for reporting and knowledge sharing, including data visualization dashboards, infographics, and interactive tools.
  • Exploring and piloting the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital tools to improve workflows, analysis, and communication.
  • Assisting in streamlining project implementation and reporting for greater efficiency and innovation.
  • Supporting the development of internal knowledge management systems (databases, document templates, automated trackers).
  • Conducting desk research and scanning for emerging digital solutions and good practices relevant to migration and development programming.
  • Providing technical and creative input for presentations, reports, and donor/partner communications.
Training Components and Learning Elements
  • Organizational Orientation – IOM mandate, structure, key policies, mission priorities.
  • Innovation & Digital Transformation – design thinking, problem-solving, applying non-traditional digital solutions.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization – Excel/Power BI/Tableau skills, turning data into insights, creating dashboards/infographics.
  • Artificial Intelligence & Automation – practical AI tools (ChatGPT, automation, image generation), ethical use, data privacy.
  • Reporting & Knowledge Management – donor/internal reporting standards, impactful communication, KM platforms (SharePoint, Teams).
  • Professional Development & Soft Skills – teamwork, multicultural communication, presentation skills, time management.

Required Qualifications

Education
Up to three years of university education in one of the following fields (or related areas): Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology; Statistics, Mathematics, Economics; International Relations, Development Studies, Social Sciences; Communications, Media, Graphic/Visual Design
Experience
No full-time experience needed, but relevant part-time experience is an advantage.
Skills
  • Ability to think innovatively and propose non-traditional solutions.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
  • Basic knowledge or interest in artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, automation, image generation).
  • Strong analytical and research skills; ability to translate data into clear insights.
  • Good graphic design or presentation skills (infographics, visuals, layout) an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and adapt to new challenges.
Languages
Fluency in English, Russian and Tajik languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Travel required
Yes, only when necessary.

Notes
  1. Any offer made to the candidate in relation to this vacancy notice is subject to funding confirmation.

  3. Depending on experience and location, interns are granted a small monthly stipend to help offset costs. Interns benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship granted by his/her university or other sponsoring body that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend.
  4. IOM covers Interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP), free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for reasons related to non-occupational accidents and illnesses. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accident or illness and will be required to provide written proof of such coverage before commencing work.
  5. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discrimination based on gender, nationality, age, race, sexual orientation, religious or ethnic background or disabilities.
  6. IOM does not charge a fee at any stage of its recruitment process (application, interview, processing, training or other fee). IOM does not request any information related to bank accounts.
