Job Summary

This position covers multiple duty stations in the following locations: Quito (Centro AMOR), Tulcán, Lago Agrio, Huaquillas, Guayaquil, and Manta. To identify the Duty Station you are applying for, please indicate it clearly in your cover letter.

The Field Assistant will support the implementation and follow-up of field activities under the supervision of the Field Coordinator. Responsibilities include providing guidance to migrants, refugees, and host communities, supporting case management processes, maintaining communication with community actors and partners, and contributing to reporting and data collection. The role also involves coordinating logistical and administrative aspects of field operations, monitoring resources in the field, and participating in missions and emergency response as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the implementation and follow-up of field activities, in line with established work plans.
  2. Identify opportunities for improvement as well as challenges and constraints and report them promptly to the supervisor.
  3. Provide guidance to migrants, refugees, and host communities on services, referral pathways, and protection mechanisms, ensuring inclusive and respectful treatment.
  4. Support case management processes, from identification and assistance to follow-up, ensuring the proper and timely use of IOM’s case management tools (IMS).
  5. Maintain regular communication with community actors, local authorities, and partner organizations to facilitate the implementation of activities and report findings to the supervisor. Collect, consolidate, and review relevant field information, ensuring data quality before submission to the technical staff.
  6. Contribute to the preparation of inputs for periodic reports and presentations, as well as administrative documentation related to field activities.
  7. Support the coordination of logistical and administrative aspects of field operations, including travel, events, trainings, and meetings.
  8. Support the management and follow-up of basic administrative requests (small purchases, payments, service contracts, mobilizations), in coordination with the relevant support units.
  9. Contribute to the monitoring of resources, supplies, and materials delivered in the field, ensuring their proper distribution and registration.
  10. Participate in field missions and support emergency response, in accordance with supervisor guidance.
  11. Perform other related tasks as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma with 4 years of work experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Psychology, Migration Studies, Law, or related fields with two (2) years of relevant professional experience

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience

  • Previous experience in field operations or related humanitarian programmes is an advantage.

Skills

  • Good command of IT tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet, with the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and consolidate project information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, institutional counterparts, and implementing partners.
  • Practical knowledge of administrative, financial, and logistical procedures related to project and activity management at the office level.
  • Experience in collecting, systematizing, and conducting basic analysis of programme information, ensuring quality, order, and reliability of data.
  • General understanding of IOM’s mandate in humanitarian preparedness and response, recovery, and migration, as well as UN system standards for project management.

Languages

  • For this position, fluency in Spanish is required (oral and written).
  • Oral and written fluency of beneficiary’s languages (English) is an advantage.

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
