Executive Director
Indiana State University, a premier higher education institution
known for its commitment to excellence in education and community
services, is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to join the
Division of University Advancement as the Executive Director of the
Indiana State University Alumni Association. This pivotal role is
responsible for the overall leadership and direction of the
University’s alumni program and executive support of the alumni
association and alumni board of directors. As Indiana State
University moves forward on a comprehensive campaign, the Executive
Director of the Alumni Association will serve in a leadership role
for the campaign. The Executive Director is responsible for
planning and conducting all alumni-related activities and programs
designed to enhance the University and the alumni association. The
Director will be responsible for increasing alumni philanthropic
giving and annual and lifetime membership goals. The Executive
Director is responsible for expanding and sustaining alumni
participation and giving during the comprehensive campaign and
beyond. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to
managing events designed to increase alumni participation, managing
the Alumni Board of Directors and all fundraising events associated
with the charge of the Board, and working with the Director of the
ISU Annual Fund on joint fundraising ventures. Responsible for
long-range strategic planning, strategic vision, staff supervision,
policy support, budget management, and programmatic efforts of the
alumni association.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide executive leadership to the Alumni Association’s board
of directors. - Recruit new members to the Alumni Association board
- Develop strategies for success for the alumni association
board, including but not limited to committee work, volunteer
opportunities, mentorship with students, and fundraising. - Coordinate the involvement of alumni and students in the
development, planning, implementation, and management of alumni
events - Enlist, motivate, and train a corps of volunteers committed to
successful alumni programming - Advance the alumni association’s membership program
- Provide direction and leadership to the staff members reporting
to the Executive Director - Coordinate the programs of the alumni association, including
but not limited to Homecoming, alumni club events, and engagement
with out-of-state alumni - Establish annual operating strategies and budgets
- Supervise alumni staff, student workers, and volunteers
- Provide leadership for various communication programs for
alumni - Maintain a portfolio of new alumni and annual giving prospects
and solicit their support for gifts such as annual giving, annual
membership, lifetime membership, and student philanthropy
participation. - Schedule and conduct 4 to 5 face-to-face visits weekly with
alumni to garner volunteer support, increase membership, or solicit
annual gifts. - Establish relationships and collaborate with the appropriate
university staff and the external community to generate interest in
the alumni association among alumni and current university
students. This may include having an association presence at
community and university events. - Represent the Alumni Association and/or University at on- and
off-campus meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Required Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- Minimum of five years of successful management experience with
a comprehensive university advancement, alumni, or development
program, or five or more years experience in sales or marketing
fields. - Thorough knowledge of principles and methods for the operation
of a successful alumni program - Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with multiple
constituencies, both internal and external
