IT and Data Management Officer

Brief description of the organization

Yazda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014 in response to the genocide committed by the self-declared Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (“ISIL”) against the Yazidis and other communities in Iraq and Syria.

 

Project Background:

The Documentation Program was launched in October 2015 to document the genocide committed against the Yazidis. Since then, the Documentation team has been collecting evidence in the form of witness and survivor interviews, and documenting crime scenes in and around Sinjar, Nineveh Province, where the genocide took place. The mandate of the project is to build an accurate historical record and evidence base to support prosecutions, transition justice mechanisms, advocacy and accountability for the crimes committed by ISIL against Yazidis.

Job Purpose 

The purpose of the role is to ensure quality control of program data and its migration onto Yazda databases.

Main Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the IT Coordinator, and the Project Manager, the IT and Data Management is expected to fulfill the following duties

• Manage, sort, and archive all program-related data in accordance with internal policies and best practice guidelines
• Support the quality control and accuracy of all data within the dedicated database and follow up with the relevant team members to correct errors in a timely manner
• Provide support to the IT Coordinator and Project Manager in designing and maintaining comprehensive data collection tools and program databases
• Plan, implement and support new and existing data management systems to ensure their smooth migration of data, and proactively address troubleshooting issues
• Ensure the proper use and cataloguing of data collection tools (epidemiological, surveys, etc.) as directed by the IT Coordinator
• Ensure the high level of protection of data through data security mechanisms, network access, and backup systems
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues for all departments
• Coordinate closely with the Documentation Team to meet their data management needs and support the streamlined processing of information and data gathered
• Ensure that donor targets are met without compromising quality and in accordance with domestic and international evidence-gathering and chain of custody standards
• Produce and provide the data, information and reports requested by the IT Coordinator or Project Manager
• Any other related task assigned by the IT Coordinator or Project Manager

تخطيط وتنفيذ ودعم أنظمة إدارة البيانات لضمان انتقال البيانات بسلاسة ومعالجة المشاكل بشكل استباقي.

• ضمان الاستخدام الصحيح وتصنيف أدوات جمع البيانات (مثل الأدوات الخاصة بالتحليل، الاستبيانات، إلخ) كما هو موجه من قبل منسق تكنولوجيا المعلومات.
• ضمان مستوى عالٍ من حماية البيانات من خلال آليات أمان البيانات، والوصول إلى الشبكة، وأنظمة النسخ الاحتياطي.
• استكشاف مشكلات الأجهزة والبرمجيات وحلها لجميع الأقسام
• التنسيق بشكل وثيق مع فريق التوثيق لتلبية احتياجاتهم في إدارة البيانات ودعم معالجة المعلومات والبيانات المجمعة بشكل سلس.

Required skills and knowledge:

Professional Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in IT and computer science/engineering or related field
• 2 years’ experience working in data entry, IT programming, data management or related field
• High level of computer skills, including software and hardware skills
• Understanding and previous work experience in data protection and/or cyber security preferred
• Experience working with an NGO is preferred
• Advanced level of understanding of confidentiality requirements and the protection of highly sensitive beneficiary data

  • Proficiency in Arabic and Kurmanji is mandatory.
  • Basic oral and written skills in English is required
• Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills and the ability to work well with people from different backgrounds
