Scope of Service: The Job Placement AmeriCorps will provide services to assist recently arrived refugees and other immigrant attain self-sufficiency through employment including employment preparation, job placement, and career enhancement. This position reports to the Employment Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients directly in conducting intakes and assessments, develop employment plans, conduct practice interviews, help clients enhance their resumes, and lead career counseling sessions that convey key messages about the importance of employment in becoming self-sufficient
- Accompany clients to job interviews and orientations as needed
- Develop and cultivate new relationships with area employers in order to identify appropriate employment opportunities for clients
- Conduct sector specific research on industry hiring trends
- Determine specific employment opportunities appropriate to clients and assist clients in accessing these opportunities by guiding them through the hiring process
- Monitor job performance, wage level, and employer/employee satisfaction
- Assist clients and employers as necessary with post placement issues and continuing employment needs
- Reduce barriers to job retention
- Maintain files and database records to track client progress through all economic development services and ensure timely and accurate compliance with all reporting requirements
- Participate in all program meetings, development activities, and other meetings as needed
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the US job search process and the ability to effectively coach clients through the nuanced process of securing employment
- Strong communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English. Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired
- Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation
- Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must commit to at least 1,700 hours of service
Working Environment:
- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
The living allowance for this position is $18,700. Upon completion of a minimum of 1,700 service hours, AmeriCorps member will be eligible for an education award of $7,395.
Proposed activities will be supported, in part, with federal funds from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) AmeriCorps State program sub-granted through the Maryland Governor’s Office of Service and Volunteerism. Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from CNCS.
Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
