About the position
The Advocacy for Impact Unit collaborates with Regional and Science Groups to work with, for, and through partners, to ensure research findings and evidence are used to inform decisions on national policies and regulatory systems, financial subsidies and incentives, knowledge management and dissemination systems, and international agreements and conventions. The Unit advances the creation of an enabling environment for scaling innovations, solutions, and technologies, and influencing the policy environment and investment decisions of private and public stakeholders at global, regional, and national scales. The Unit leads on identifying and coordinating action on global advocacy priorities, representing CGIAR’s position on key issues, and efforts in high-level policy dialogues.
As part of the Advocacy for Impact (A4I) Unit, the Job Trainee, Global Partnerships & Advocacy will support the Unit team in identifying key advocacy opportunities, partners, and coalitions to position CGIAR science to influence relevant policy and investment decision-making processes. The Job Trainee will undertake background research, prepare briefing notes, organize, and follow up on meetings, and ensure the team and relevant stakeholders are kept up to date.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in monitoring developments in key international decision-making processes (e.g., G20, G7, UNFCCC, etc.) and contribute to the preparation and updating of a calendar highlighting major events, meetings, and advocacy-related opportunities, including submission dates, workshops, and side events.
  • Provide support with preparing updates and briefing notes on policy, legal, and institutional developments within specific sub-processes of key international processes.
  • Support with desk research and the preparation of background materials on key stakeholders, advocacy entry points, as well as priority and emerging advocacy issues related to CGIAR’s interests in key international decision-making processes, such as UNFCCC and G20.
  • Assist in organizing regular and ad hoc working group meetings related to major international processes and events, including the preparation of agendas, background materials, minute-keeping, and tracking and follow-up on agreed-upon deliverables and actions.
  • Contribute to the preparation of regular briefs on the progress of CGIAR’s advocacy efforts, milestones achieved, successes, and lessons learned for dissemination within the internal CGIAR stakeholder community.
  • Attend relevant internal meetings and report back to the advocacy unit team and other internal stakeholders.
  • Provide support in mapping policy positions and key messages produced by CGIAR and close partners to aid the team’s engagement in major processes.
  • Assist with other duties as needed to support the work of the Advocacy Unit, including updating the team’s intranet page.

 

Requirements

Requirements
  • Secondary school education.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite packages.
  • Working knowledge of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Good interpersonal, communications and teamwork skills, courtesy and tact, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and national backgrounds.
  • Good skills in personal organization and priority setting.
  • Good client orientation and service approach.
  • Good time management and multi-tasking skills and attention to details.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Willingness to keep an open mind to learn new things.
  • Be a self-starter.
Desirable Requirements
  • Previous internships.
  • Work experience in an international environment.
  • Knowledge of a second language.

 

Benefits

Terms of employment
This is a full-time job traineeship, and the monthly salary is Euro 1,217.13. The contract is for a period of eleven (11) months, renewable upon review of performance and funds availability.
