Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Secretariat is seeking a motivated intern to support the work of the Journal Project of the Central Planning and Coordination Division of the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management in New York. The Journal of the United Nations is a complete picture and historical record of the life of United Nations Headquarters on any given day. The internship is for a period of six months. Internships are unpaid and full-time (40 hours per week). Interns work directly with and for the member(s) of the Journal Project to whom they are assigned. Internship will have a hybrid work schedule, with 2 days working remotely, and 3 days working in-office. Interns’ responsibilities will depend upon the nature of the project(s) undertaken, the background of the intern, and the duration of the internship. Daily responsibilities might include, but not necessarily be limited to: • Providing assistance in the publication of the Journal of the United Nations • Document practices and working methods of the Journal, develop Standard Operating Procedure (SoPs) and training materials for clients • Support change management in the introduction of new features in the Journal and strengthen user experience and consistency in the display of related data sets • Support the development of user stories, presentations, briefing papers, coordinate meetings and document minutes of meetings • Support the day-to-day management of internal databases, including in user acceptance, quality assurance and change management processes • Support issue management related processes and prepare related correspondence • Assist in the formulation of project related strategies, business readiness analysis
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to Data Analysis and Change Management. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Have proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel Have a degree of familiarity with data management, modeling, mining or statistical analysis Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter Knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI is not required, but it is admired. If you have this experience, please tell us how knowledgeable you are. Knowledge of Graphic Design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or other programs such as Canva are not required, but are admired. If you have this experience, please tell us how knowledgeable you are.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
