Description of Work Unit Construct, operate and maintain the University building plumbing systems to include (but not limited to) such things as: the potable water systems, domestic hot water systems, deionized water, natural gas, fire sprinkler, sanitary and storm systems, process air, vacuum, medical gas, swimming pools and backflow prevention devices to meet the University, Division and Department’s needs and requirements.
Position Summary Provide the required plumbing and piping techniques mandated by specific codes to be carried out by a licensed plumber under International Plumbing Code, Uniform Building Codes, and O.S.H.A. Standards. Install plumbing and piping systems for new construction and remodel projects. Provide repairs on plumbing equipment and systems.
Work requires a licensed plumber.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application:
  • Four years of progressively responsible pipe and/or mechanical experience related to the work assignment.
  • Possession of a current, journey-level plumber license.
Substitutions The following may substitute for the minimum qualifications of this position:
  • At the agency’s discretion, successful completion of a formalized plumbing, pipefitting, steamfitting, or heating, ventilation and air conditioning apprenticeship program, or higher level, non-correspondence course work in the same fields from an accredited vocational school or university may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications The highly desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, personal characteristics, and experience directly related and critical to this position:
  • Two years of new construction & remodel experience in Commercial and/ or Industrial environments.
  • The willingness and ability to learn and adjust to new processes and regulations in support of University building requirements.
  • Completion of additional plumbing certifications beyond the journey level licensure. Please include additional certification information in your application section titled “Education History – Licenses/Certifications/Registrations section of the application.
  • Additional experience such as HDPE fuse pipe experience, Steam and Condensate experience.
  • Hydronic heater experience including boiler installation
  • Related State service experience.
  • Knowledge of and ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledge of and ability to calculate materials needed.
  • Knowledge of International Plumbing Code.
  • Knowledge of International Fuel Gas Code.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
