Tdh:

Terre des hommes Lausanne (Tdh), Switzerland’s largest children’s rights organisation, is reorganising its organisational model in order to get closer to children and young people in vulnerable situations in the thirty or so countries in which it is active.

In Tdh’s new organisational model, the HQ takes on the role of a centre of expertise in order to act effectively in favour of the respect, protection and promotion of children’s rights and to ensure overall steering, strategy, policies, monitoring and compliance and informed leadership.

 

Context / Main goals:

The Junior Child Participation and Child Safeguarding Intern (Sport Focused) technically supported by the Global Safeguarding Advisor and Global CP and MHPSS Advisor will support the design, implementation, and monitoring of child participation and safeguarding activities organized within the framework of the implementation of the Innovation Booster on Youth Safety and solutions supported by Inno Suisse. This role involves working directly with children and youth part of the Child Advisory Board (CAB) of the Gym-nastic Club of Bourgeoise in Lausanne, coaches, partners, to ensure that children’s voices are heard and respected while maintaining a safe environment for all participants. The Junior Child participation Intern will play an essential role in fostering a child-centered approach and promoting a culture of safety and re-spect across all activities. As part of the Child Protection (CP) sector team he/she assists the team in the implementation of the other CP sector’s activities, and more specifically with administrative, communica-tion and knowledge management tasks when asked by the direct supervisor.

 

Responsibilities:

Child Participation in Sports Settings:

·         Develop and Facilitate Participation Activities: With the technical support of the technical global advisors will design and implement child participation activities the Gymnastic Club Bourgeoise of Lausanne such as as workshops, feedback sessions, and child advisory boards, ensuring that children’s perspectives are integrated into the planning and evaluation of sports activities.

·         Engage Children in Decision-Making:  Select and Establish child advisory boards to enable children to voice their ideas and concerns and support their involvement in shaping safe sports practices.

·         Create Child-Friendly Materials: Develop and distribute materials that explain child participation and safeguarding policies in a language and format suitable for children involved in sports.

·         Support Events: Assist the Bourgeois Gymnastic Club in coordinating child-friendly sports events that require the participation of the CAB and activities, ensuring child participation throughout the planning and implementation stages.

·         Empower Children as Advocates: Encourage children to advocate for their rights within sports settings and provide them with tools to safely express their views.

·         Monitor and Evaluate Participation Activities: Responsible to collect data for monitoring and evaluation of activities.

·         Contribute to the final report measuring the impact of such solution in improving the participation and perception of safety within the gymnastic club of Bourgeois.

 

Child Safeguarding in Sports:

·         Facilitate the consultation of the child safeguarding policies with the CAB.

·         To use the safeguarding policies during the implementation of activities: Ensure that child safeguarding policies are used.

·         Risk Assessments: Conduct safeguarding risk assessments specific to sports activities and events, identifying potential risks to children and implementing mitigation measures.

 

Education and Capacity Building:

·         Train Child Advisory board members:  Facilitate sessions for the CAB members on safeguarding and self-protection, equipping them with knowledge of their rights and the importance of a safe sports environment.

·         Contribute to the Development of Educational Resources: To participate in the design of the resources and training modules for children, staff, and parents on safeguarding and child participation in sports.

·         Empower Children through Self-Protection Activities: Organize interactive activities, such as the “Colorful Shields” or similar programs, to raise awareness of safeguarding in sports and encourage self-protection among young athletes.

 

Coordination and Advocacy:

·         Coordinate with Gymnastic Club of Bourgeoise: Act as main point of contact for the delivery of the direct activities with children and youth.

·         Manage the administrative aspects of the project.

·         Supports the advocacy efforts on safe sports.

·         Support the CP team with other administrative, logistical, communication and reporting tasks as required by the supervisor.

 

 

Profile:

Education:

·         Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology or Enrolled in Master Studies, Sports Management, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field.

·         Knowledge of Child Protection and Safeguarding Standards is a Plus: Familiarity with international child protection standards, such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and child safeguarding principles.

 

Experience:

At least 1-2 years of internship/volunteering experience in child participation, or a similar field in Switzerland (internships or volunteer roles may count toward experience).

 

Competencies:

·         Child-Centered and Sports-Focused Approach: Demonstrates a strong commitment to children’s rights and protection in sports, with an understanding of the unique risks and opportunities associated with youth participation in sports.

·         Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with children, coaches, and parents in sports settings.

·         Training and Facilitation Skills: Experience delivering training or workshops, especially in sports contexts, and ability to adapt content to be accessible and engaging for young athletes.

·         Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks in dynamic sports environments.

·         Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify potential risks and issues in sports settings and implement safeguarding measures effectively.

·         Team Collaboration: Works well in team settings and collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including sports organizations and community groups.

·         Integrity and Confidentiality: High ethical standards and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality, particularly in child safeguarding matters.

 

Languages : French and English

 

IT : High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

 

Conditions:

·       Swiss contract

·       Gross monthly salary 1’900 CHF x13,36 months

·       Annual leaves: 25 days/year
