Scope of the role
The Junior Climate Analyst role forms part of the carbon analysis and reporting team. Its
primary responsibility is to support carbon foot-printing and life cycle analysis projects and
form recommendations to clients regarding their carbon emissions reductions. The Junior Climate
Analyst has an active role in data gathering, sorting and inputting in addition to conducting
industry research and writing reports for client projects with guidance from Analysts and
Senior Analysts. This role has direct contact with clients with regards to data gathering, ad
hoc requests and presenting results to the client.

Key responsibilities
Collecting, inputting and analysing data:
- Work closely with clients during the data gathering process, providing data templates,
surveys and guidance on how to collect the data. If applicable, liaise with a client’s
suppliers. - Sort data into appropriate formats (word docs, excel spreadsheets, surveys etc.) and
efficiently collate into a format that can be converted to demonstrate carbon emissions. - Conduct detailed analysis into carbon emissions results, providing different data views for
the client. Troubleshoot unusual or unexpected data and year on year comparisons for example,
so as to highlight interesting or impactful results in reports.
Putting together reports and communicating results to clients:
- Present results in a logical and client-specific way, providing the most useful view to
clients. - Write relevant, impactful commentary on results that can be easily understood and that feed
into the client’s strategy. - Calculate and communicate science-based targets, ensuring to use relevant sector specific
guidance. - Confidently explain and discuss results with clients, answering questions and conducting
deep dives into key points raised by the client.
Researching new industries for client projects and feeding this into strategy:
- Investigate innovative carbon conversion factors from Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) studies for
example and apply to client projects. - Research industry specific carbon emissions reduction
opportunities/schemes/projects/opportunities to potentially feed into client strategy. - Research industry specific benchmarking data to help clients to compare their results with
similar companies within their industry sector.
Inputting data into Compare Your Footprint and assisting with other related research
projects:
- Understand how to use CYF for client projects including creating new organisations and
facilities and inputting usage data. - Conduct independent ad-hoc research projects to help build the Green Element carbon
conversion factor database. - Support benchmarking, carbon capture and storage projects likewise documentation relating
to new legislation, Green House Gas (GHG) protocols and Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi)
guidance for example.

Skills, experience & qualifications
Skills:
- MS Excel for data analysis and carbon reporting, including the ability to make pivot tables
and useful graphs and charts. - MS PowerPoint for creating client reports and displaying data.
- An understanding and ability to work on projects covering emissions calculations,
reporting, target setting and Science Based Targets (SBT). - Data gathering (including formulation of client-specific templates) and data
parsing/analysis. - Ability to troubleshoot unusual or unexpected data, perform year on year comparisons and to
highlight interesting or impactful results. - Problem solving and troubleshooting data issues and managing client queries.
- Conducting research in primary and secondary literature to help with analysis and
client/company strategy. - Ability to present results, communicate with clients and write relevant and impactful
commentary in reports. - Time management and organisational skills to keep track of the actions supporting client
projects.
Experience:
- Effective team work to work collaboratively on large/complex projects effectively.
- Understanding of carbon foot-printing, including Green House Gas Protocol methodology and
carbon factors, Life Cycle Analysis, SBT’s and Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting
(SECR). - Understanding of climate strategy and the ability to advise clients with basic
recommendations. - Ability to research sector-specific carbon factors and information for projects.
- Demonstrable experience of improving existing processes and the development of new tools
and methodology. - Experience of supporting client projects and liaising with external clients and internal
customers. - Effective communications with clients and colleagues on calls, in meetings and in giving
presentations.
Qualifications:
Essential
- Undergraduate degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in a relevant subject, for
example environmental sciences, climate change, biodiversity, biology, ecology, geography.
Desirable
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent Level 7 qualification) in a relevant subject, for
example environmental sciences, climate change, sustainability, policy, biodiversity, and
conservation.
