Main purpose of the job:

 

 

  • Applying medical knowledge and skills to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of children, ensuring integrated new-born and pediatrics care through Emergency services in the hospital including the management of malnutrition and newborn in ER. Prescribing the necessary treatment, respecting MSFCH protocols.
  • Collaborating closely with the different department of the hospital (e.g., IPD, Lab and Mini lab) Knowing and ensuring all updated MSFCH medical protocols and universal precautions are followed and implemented, reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control.
  • Keeping patients and their families informed of the illness and the treatment to follow, checking that they have been understood. Ensuring professional autonomy and confidentiality are respected and a good attitude and proper bed-side manner towards the patient and their care takers and the rest of the medical team.
  • Following up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients through daily visits, consultations, and examinations, pre-scribing the necessary treatment following MSFCH protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or trans-ferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolu-tion.
  • Monitoring the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material and addresses the list of the missing item for new-born and pediatric activities. Providing inputs about general organization of the different pediatrics wards, including the admission, transfer, and discharge criteria + referral procedure from Maternity and post-delivery wards
  • Checking and controlling the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and taking care the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of the medical material. Assuring general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participating in the introduction / improvement of the collection and analysis of epidemiological new-born and pediat-rics data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problems or compli-cations of the patient’s illness and medical errors. Collecting Clinical cases for further trainings and list a series of comments to improve the current MSFCH protocols.
  • Designing and providing training to staff as required

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

MSFCH Specific Contextual Accountabilities :

  • Reassessing patients in the ER room to ensure proper triage, prioritize red cases over yellow patients.
  • Inform the ER supervisor and nursing team if there is any discrepancy in the triage between the ER and triage area.
  • ABCD primary survey to be conducted systemically for all patients, including neonates, trauma cases, and any sick patients, to arrive in the ER room and manage the patient accordingly.
  • Proper history, clinical examination, and concise, informative documentation are essential to ensuring the quality of care for all patients in the emergency room.
  • Make sure to use the STOP 5 debriefing tool after any complicated case management and get team feedback.
  • Rationalize the use of analgesia and antibiotics and consult with the ABR focal point for any sick patients or the need to start antibiotics beyond the first line.
  • Discuss with the focal point and/or IPD pediatrician the need for culture and ensure the sample has been taken from the patient prior to admission to IPD.
  • Respect IPC measurement in Nablus hospital: no ring, no watches, no accessories, no nail polish or long nails; wear MSFCH uniform during the working hours.
  • Proper handover between shifts, face-to-face handover is essential for all admitted cases in the ER.
  • Call for help whenever it is needed, e.g., a second opinion or if the ER gets busy. (Inform the ER supervisor and CTL/or Expat pediatrician.)
  • Rationalize the use of X-rays and lab tests and avoid unnecessary X-rays.
  • Use POCUS as a diagnostic tool in the ER and practice with senior colleagues from IPD and/or an expat pedagogue.
  • Fill out the medical file according to MSF standards, including the final diagnosis list, discharge outcome, time of discharge, reason for referral, and any updated forms from the data team.
  • Communicate with the referral doctor before referring or accepting any patient in/out of the hospital.
  • Report any challenges/ concern directly to the CTL (Clinical Team Leader) and/or expat paediatrician.

 

Specific requirements for the role:

 

Education

•             Medical Doctor diploma in a recognized university

•             The position is solely open to general practitioners and junior pediatricians; other specialists will not be taken into consideration. Pediatric qualification is desired.

Experience

•             At least 2 year experience Mandatory as ‘Internship’ with DOH

•             2 years’ experience minimum as a Medical Doctor in pediatrics hospital is preferred.

•             Experience in similar position with MSD or other International NGO

Languages                            

•             Local language (Arabic) is mandatory and English language is desired.

Knowledge

•             Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

•             Updates his / her knowledge before each mission, according to the most updated MSF new-born and pediatric protocols
