Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Early Career Professional in the Civil Engineering discipline with diverse design and/or focused design experience in site civil engineering, utilities, drainage, and roadway to be based in Oakland, California for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit project.

JOB INFORMATION:

While the position is primarily for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project, AECOM has an impressive backlog of significant transportation projects in the Greater Los Angeles area and transit/rail projects across the Western Region and provides exceptional opportunity for professional growth. This position is based out of our Downtown Los Angeles office location and allows for a hybrid working scenario including for in-office collaboration sessions as well as remote work.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gathering and correlating basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Work as design engineer in the Transit/Rail group on the planning and design of civil engineering projects including local railroads, roadways, highways, interstates, freight and transit, drainage improvements and utility relocation and protection.

  • Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team members and assist with tasks including preparing engineering related calculations, reports, construction plans and drawings, specifications, cost estimates and visual aids.

  • Develop and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to solve unique engineering problems.

  • Assist with obtaining necessary permits for project.

  • Utilize AutoCAD/Civil3D to design, detail, and coordinate small to medium size tasks

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of current engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil3D, etc) and follow drafting and file naming standards

  • Draft status reports and maintain tracking log for issues and resolutions

  • Provide project construction administration support, including shop drawing review, responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), and field observations.

  • Actively participate in project meetings

  • Attend site visits

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and an ability to utilize field survey data

  • Convey technical information utilizing clear verbal and written skills

  • Communicate regularly with supervisor and project team members regarding updates on assigned tasks in a clear, timely manner. Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Design-specific tasks include:

  • Assisting Technical Leads in utility studies, relocation and new design on large scale roadway, transit, and multi-modal project for public transportation clients with supervision

  • Utility infrastructure design tasks could include storm sewers, waterlines, sanitary sewer rehabilitation projects and quantity takeoff with cost estimation.

  • Utilizing sizing and design, including for storm drain, sanitary sewer and water system

  • Advancing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses

  • Able to follow engineering sketches to produce roadway/street demolition plans, and grading plans/profiles along with drainage/utility models with supervision

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Revit, AutoCAD/Civil 3D software

  • EIT is preferred, but not required.

  • Prior experience preparing plans, specification and/or estimates for various aspects of civil engineering design including new utilities, relocation of existing utilities, site grading, drainage and roadway design, with a diverse design and/or focused design experience

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time for efficiency

  • AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and collaborative skills are essential

  • Competency, accountability, and personal commitment to deliver quality work to our clients

  • Technical knowledge of standards, principles, and practices of civil engineering

  • Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $70,222 – $129,912.
