Specific Unit Description – Global Indicators Group – DECWL The DECWL unit is part of the Global Indicators Group (DECIG). It produces the Women, Business and the Law (WBL) index which measures laws, policies and expert opinions of women’s rights in practice impacting women’s entrepreneurship and employment in 190 economies. The project presents ten indicators structured around the economic decisions women make as they move through their working lives. Results are presented in a series of annual reports, a website database, and policy notes that feed into WBG operations and analysis. For more information please visit: http://wbl.worldbank.org. Duties and Responsibilities Duties will include, but not be limited to, the following: • Contribute to primary data collection, data management and/or research projects. • Develop and maintain networks of local specialists and subject matter partners for a select group of countries. • Support the coordination of workshops, knowledge exchanges, and dissemination activities if needed. • Undertake literature reviews, data analysis, and conduct research based on department’s data and external data sources. • Contribute to analysis and writing of blogs, research papers and/or policy briefs. • Perform econometric analysis. • Contribute to overall project development and strategy and support other Global Indicators Group projects.
Selection Criteria
• Degree in Law, Public Policy, Economics, or International Development. • At least one year of experience in international development, policymaking, or law. • Experience with data collection and analysis from design to publication of data and associated research. • Excellent analytical skills. Ability to identify relationships and linkages between components covered by the report and demonstrated ability to synthesize information from different sources into cohesive format. • Excellent writing and communication skills. • Strong teamwork orientation, good interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of working effectively with a range of clients and colleagues. • A positive attitude, the ability to take initiative to identify and resolve assignment-related issues and demonstrated close attention to detail. • Professional proficiency in one or more additional languages (e.g. Arabic, French, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish) is preferred. • Excellent command of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. • Knowledge of STATA, Python or R is preferred.
