A unique opportunity to join a successful and growing conservation charity!

Kent’s Plan Bee Project Officer FTE for 20 months

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust (the Trust) is looking for a full-time Kent’s Plan Bee Project
Officer to join the conservation team and lead on the delivery of Kent’s ‘Plan Bee’, the
pollinator action plan for Kent County Council. This role is a secondment to Kent County
Council.

Kent is a hotspot for some of the UK’s rarest and most threatened bumblebee species. This is an
exciting opportunity to build on the framework and partnership already in place for this
ambitious, well-established and award-winning initiative. Your primary role will be: to provide
land management advice for bumblebees and pollinators generally, and influence the management
of public land in Kent; undertake bumblebee, pollinator, and habitat monitoring; and promote
Kent’s Plan Bee. Delivering Kent’s Plan Bee is helping the Trust to achieve our strategic aim –
‘There is more, better-connected, high-quality habitat for bumblebees across our cities, towns
and countryside.’

You will work closely with teams within Kent County Council to facilitate pollinator friendly
management, and support any input to strategic partnership work for pollinators and their
habitats. You will provide content such as social media posts and blogs for Kent County Council
and the Trust communications teams regarding Kent’s Plan Bee. You will monitor bumblebees and
other pollinators, as well as habitats, at sites where management is being implemented to
provide evidence of the effectiveness of our interventions. You will compile survey reports and
set up systems for data collection and presentation. You will recruit and train Kent County
Council staff and volunteers to undertake surveys and monitoring.

You will be a dynamic, self-reliant individual with experience in delivering ecological
assessment and land management advice, and an interest in invertebrates. You will have strong
communication skills, and be able to inspire a range of audiences to follow the advice given.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for more details of the role.

This is a full-time, fixed-term (20 months) position based at home in Kent (or within commuting
distance) – there will be some office-based working, which will generally be at Kent County
Council’s Maidstone office. There may be potential to extend this post.
