Position Details The Wesleyan Writing Center is looking for an enthusiastic, multilingual graduate to join us as the Kim Frank Multilingual Writing Fellow for 2024-2025. The focus of this position is to support and encourage the multilingual community at the Wesleyan Writing Center as well as the rest of the campus. This includes a variety of tasks including project management, leading seminars, public relations, creating educational materials, collaborating with other departments, and teaching, which will prepare the fellow for a variety of professional or academic pursuits.
Duties for the Kim Frank Multilingual Writing Fellow fall into four areas:
  • Supporting the Writing Center: The fellow will support the Writing Center through tutoring and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, leading training sessions for the writing tutors, analyzing writing center data on multilingual writers, and working closely with the Writing Center faculty and staff.
  • Creating events: The fellow will create new events and promote and support all multilingual events and activities throughout campus. As an example, this fellow will create/lead two to three events for both International Education Week and the Power of Language Week, which happen every year.
  • Collaborating across campus: This fellow will work with other departments, offices, and student groups on projects, events, orientation events, academic sessions, and committees related to writing, internationalizing the campus, multilingualism and intercultural learning.
  • Teaching and creating educational materials: The fellow will lead sessions and teach non-credit or ½ credit courses based on their areas of interest and expertise. This includes working on pre-orientation materials for international students, leading sessions for international graduate students and FLTAs, and training tutors to work with multilingual writers. Other possibilities include public speaking courses and a gamified online academic integrity course.
  • The Multilingual Writing Fellowship is awarded to a graduating senior at Wesleyan as a post-graduate position. The fellow will work closely with the Associate Professor of the Practice in TESOL and Education Studies, Beth Hepford. They will also work with the Director and Assistant Director of Academic Writing and the Ford Fellow.
    This is a term limited position on campus starting on July 1, 2024, and ending on June 30, 2025. The position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week.

    Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree
    Demonstrated proficiency in at least one language in addition to English
    Demonstrated writing proficiency and creativity
    Demonstrated interest in event planning Interest in teaching
    Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
    Effective critical thinking skills
    Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
    Excellent working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds
    Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Previous leadership position
    • Previous experience in teaching or mentoring positions such as, Writing Tutor or Mentor, Teaching Apprentice, or Peer Mentor.
    • Previous experience collaborating with global engagement departments such as the Fries Center for Global Studies, the Albritton Center, or the Office of International Student Affairs
