Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Child, Youth and Family Support Services division.  The Kalwun Child, Youth and Family Support Services division administers the Family Wellbeing Service, Family Participation Program, Early Learning Program and the Kinship and Foster Care programs within the South East Qld region. +

About the Role

Kalwun Child, Youth and Family Services is seeking an experienced counsellor to join our team. Kalwun offers a friendly and supportive staff environment, with our established teams offering a holistic approach to support vulnerable families. This position will provide a culturally safe and appropriate intensive therapeutic counselling and intervention service to children and young people under 18 years who are subject to statutory intervention, primarily supporting children and young people placed in the Kalwun Kinship and Foster Care service (OOHC) with the key objective of enhancing the stability of care placements and supporting reunification, where it is safe to do so.

Position Duties

  • Providing a high standard of clinical counselling care
  • Use evidence-based assessment tools and treatment interventions such as Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy and Trauma Informed Care
  • Manage a clinical caseload and provide counselling support to young people under 18 years who are subject to statutory intervention and require counselling or other support as a result of abuse (physical, emotional or sexual) or neglect
  • Communicating effectively with key stakeholders including Child Safety, children/ young people caregiver and families
  • Complete client notes and reports in a timely manner in accordance with recording and documentation processes.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology and/or counselling
  • Minimum 2 years’ previous experience in a similar role
  • Relevant registration/accreditation as allied health professional
  • Blue Card (unless registration held provides exemption)
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and young people
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a community setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a range of theoretical approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills and experience in ensuring culturally safe person centred focused practices
  • Align with, and uphold the values and culture of Kalwun
