This position cooks meals for 15-120 residential participants, guests, and community programs, as well as helps to support the greenhouse for education purposes and to supplement the kitchen with fresh food. As an outdoor science school with a graduate program we interact with the whole age range of humans and feed people year-round.
There are some weird things about working here. The kitchen is the center of the campus home. You’re awesome. People love you (and not just because you have cookies). You are a valued member of the staff and faculty. Have knowledge or skills other than cooking? Awesome! Odds are good you’ll get to use them. We like coming to work. There’s a lake to swim in and trails to walk and cross-country ski on right there in Ponderosa State Park. There’s almost always an annual trip to Taylor Ranch in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The benefits are great (health/vision/dental, retirement, paid: vacation, holidays, sick leave, comp/OT, and new parent leave, plus reduced-cost credit hours at UI), and we actually mean it when we say you’ll get paid more for past experience. Employee housing is also available if needed!
Your station will never get slammed and getting in the weeds really only happens if you go for a walk and get in the literal weeds. Join us. We’re rad. Dorks, but rad.

McCall Outdoor Science School is a field campus of the University of Idaho. Located on the ancestral and unceded land of the Niimiipuu Nez Perce on the shore of Payette Lake, we care for participants by cooking them real food. Good food can make all the difference in feeling welcome in a new place, and this is what we look to provide for our folks.
Our mission is to work toward reciprocal relationships between people, land, and water, by partnering with communities on innovative research and transformative learning experiences. We envision vibrant, diverse and inclusive communities, empowered to ask difficult questions and transform ways of thinking, to collaboratively and compassionately sustain the social and ecological systems that provide for all of us.
The MOSS faculty and staff value creativity, sustainability, diversity, inclusion, integrity, collaboration and reflection.
