The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation is one of Sydney’s largest frontline charities and has been operating for almost 40 years.

Our mission is to provide assistance to address the cause and effect of homelessness and poverty, faced by marginalised individuals. We succeed in achieving this through a combination of caring services like food provision, social welfare and education support.

The Kitchen Hand will be working across Loaves and Fishes Restaurant and Crews Café, ensuring the efficient operation of food services through kitchen cleanliness and support to the culinary team.

THE ROLE

Are you a hands-on, reliable, and efficient Kitchen Hand with a passion for supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

We are seeking a Kitchen Hand to join our Food Services Team on a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you will work across the Loaves and Fishes Restaurant and Crews Café, ensuring the smooth operation of our food services by maintaining kitchen cleanliness and assisting the culinary team.

Key Details:

  • Rostered Days: Wednesday to Sunday
  • Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Restaurant / Cafe Coordinator, you will be responsible for:

Assisting with basic food preparation, including basic food cooking tasks under supervision.

Maintaining overall cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen which includes personal hygiene and food safety compliance.

Ensuring prompt and thorough washing of kitchen utensils and cutleries.

Regularly managing waste disposal and empty trash containers.

Assembling and plating dishes according to the chef’s instructions.

Monitoring stock rotation and usage, reporting shortages to the Chef, Restaurant Coordinator or Café Coordinator.

Assisting with stocktaking and inventory control as directed.

Assisting with any other ad-hoc tasks required.

We’re seeking someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and brings:

  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Hand or similar role.
  • Basic Food Safety Certificate (or willing to obtain)
  • Food Safety Supervisor (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge of food safety, food handling and hygiene principles.
  • Reliable, time efficient and great communicator i.e. verbal and written.
  • Ability to perform tasks that involve standing, bending and lifting.
  • Empathy for individuals from marginalised backgrounds.
