These are central elements for improving the quality and effectiveness of our humanitarian and development programmes and ensuring affected populations can fulfil their rights to participate and be heard.

The Accountability to Affected Populations Section in the Office of Emergency Programmes – Geneva, is leading the implementation of UNICEF AAP strategy globally. The Section ensures a systematic and coherent organization-wide approach to AAP so that it becomes an integral part of good quality programming in development and humanitarian situations alike. It supports the application of AAP approaches at country level, working closely with a network of AAP Specialists/Focal Points in Regional Offices.

The responsibilities are the following, but not limited to:

  • Manage internal knowledge platforms, organizing SharePoint sites and libraries;
  • In partnership with the Advocacy and Communication Division and other relevant Divisions, support the dissemination of regular updates and case studies on AAP across the organization, and through the AAP technical Working Group and EMOPS-wide humanitarian resources channels;
  • Manage the development and dissemination of the Quarterly AAP Newsletter (compiling and curating the content from regions, visual design in Canva and publishing in MailJet);
  • Lead the organization of the AAP global Community of practice, ensuring regular communication flows across its members and organizing quarterly meetings;
  • Support the development and dissemination of documents and knowledge products (Handbook, strategies, technical briefs) in various forms for both internal and external channels (SharePoint News posts, News links, e-mail blurbs, etc.) and coordinate the graphic design and copy-editing of AAP technical briefs and other relevant documents;
  • Support to note-taking and reporting of regular meetings;
  • Support on data analysis and visualization, particularly the analysis of AAP performance based on the organization-wide Core Standard Indicators.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the Accountability and Inclusion Helpdesk, and undertake any other tasks as needed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have…

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in Social Sciences, Communications, Data Analysis, International Development or related field. An additional diploma or experience in humanitarian action, development or related field is a plus.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience in knowledge management, communications, or information management is an advantage.
  • Proven knowledge in text edition and graphic design.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English. A second UN language is a plus, preferably French, Spanish, or Arabic.
  • Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
