This position is located in the Strategic Programme Development, Coordination and Partnership, Capacity Development Programme Management Office (CDPMO) of DESA. CDPMO supports the Under-Secretary-General and DESA’s divisions in the implementation of the Department’s capacity development approach and promotes coherence as well as integrated delivery of the Department’s capacity development activities. The Knowledge Management Officer supports knowledge management initiative and implementation, data analytics and reporting, website development and maintenance, and IT support for CDPMO. The Knowledge Management Officer reports to the Senior Programme Management Officer in the Strategic Programme Development, Coordination and Partnership. Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, and under the overall guidance of the Senior Programme Management Officer in the Strategic Programme Development and Partnerships Section and inputs from the respective section chiefs, the Knowledge Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

Knowledge Management

  • Plan, design, execute, manage, and monitor knowledge management initiatives.
  • Provide support, advisory services, training and guidance to staff within CDOMO and DESA on knowledge management, engagement, communication, community management, client engagement, and content management.
  • Analyze and consolidate data, draw lessons and good practices and draft guidelines on knowledge management initiatives, and communicate them internally and externally to foster learning, improve knowledge-sharing and improve client-services.
  • Carry out other knowledge management, facilitation, community management, communications, training, and client service tasks as advised by the supervisor.

Data analytics and reporting

  • Analyze activities and data of the different programmes stored in databases and create reports and visual graphs in a concise, evidence based, and analytical manner.
  • Develop process improvement mechanisms for data analytics tasks.
  • Acquire and clean data from primary or secondary sources and maintain databases/data systems.
  • Implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Track and report on progress regarding department specific data initiatives.
  • Develop reports, dashboards or other tools to effectively summarize findings and convey information to management.
  • Provides electronic record keeping support by advising on electronic record keeping system standards and compliance, and by providing training in the use of metadata standards.

Website and IT support

  • Oversee the management, maintenance, and enhancement of CDPMO websites, built in Drupal 9, ensuring that they are up-to-date and in compliance with UN and industry standards and best practices.
  • Regularly monitor website performance and implement necessary improvements to enhance speed, functionality, and user experience. Support CDPMO staff who maintain the websites’ content.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical issues related to CDPMO computer equipment and websites.

Performs other duties as required

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in knowledge management, information management, information science and technology, business administration, social science, communications, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in developing and implementing knowledge management strategies and solutions is required. Experience in using information technology to develop and manage knowledge management systems or tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting is required. Experience in using business intelligence and other digital solutions to create, share, and explore interactive data dashboards and reports is required. Experience in maintaining websites, using Drupal (CMS) or Azure, and providing general IT support to the office is required. Experience in supporting capacity development programmes/projects in international organizations is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
