Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located at the UNGSC in Valencia, Spain, within the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT). The work will be delivered inside the Technology Development, Design and Planning Section /Technology Development Unit (TDDPS/TDU). The consultant reports to the Chief of TDU. Within limits of delegated authority, the consultant will be responsible for the following duties: • Assess the Life Support and Security Technology Solutions, during and following the implementation of the Smart Camp contingent in a UNMISS contingent camp (Bor – ROK contingent). • Draft and deliver assessment report and provide proposals for improvements of policies, guidelines and standard operating procedures. • Facilitate the liaison between the Contingent, Mission, and UNGSC. • Other tasks, as instructed.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Information and Communication Technologies, or in a field related to the post description is required. A first level university degree in a field related to the post description may be accepted in lieu of advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 (five) years of Smart City / Smart Camp IoT (Internet of Things) is required. Experience with command-and-control C4ISR (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, and interoperability) systems is required. Experience in ICT/engineering implementation project management is required. Experience in working in a multicultural environment where tact, diplomacy, excellent relationship management and communication skills are critical to positively influence relationships with a wide range of stakeholders is desirable. Experience with Information Strategy Planning is desirable. Experience with command-and-control C4ISR systems is desirable. Experience working in the United Nations or similar international organization in a conflict or post-conflict environment is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Korean are required.
