The Department of Biological Sciences in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Art and Sciences is seeking a Lab Manager to oversee daily laboratory operations of the Ashman lab and the joint polyploidy projects of Ashman-Turcotte labs. The Manager will oversee routine project activities and protocols and supplies, ensuring plants, supplies, and equipment are ready for use in experiments. The manager will create, maintain and keep inventory records for colonies of diploid and polyploid aquatic plants. The incumbent will train and oversee adherence to lab-approved use of the colonies, data collection, and archiving.



Job Summary

Manages day-to-day laboratory operations while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices. Works with, adapts, and installs scientific equipment in research laboratories. Develops and collaborates on routine projects and procedures. Manages inventory and equipment and performs budget functions.


Essential Functions 

Maintenance, creation (using colchicine) and inventory of living plant stocks. Flow cytometry and DNA, RNA extraction. Data, record keeping, and protocol writing. Maintain equipment functionality and supply inventories to facilitate research.


Physical Effort 

Daily pushing carts of glassware, lifting trays of media-filled jars or racks of media-filled tubes on to shelves, walking up stairs, and standing to work on bench tops for several hours.
