Laboratory Assistant

Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting the medical technologists and technicians in processing and final disposition of specimens through the technical departments.  The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for clerical and client services duties within the technical departments (phoning and faxing laboratory results when requested, filing instrument printouts, entering orders on CPL patients).  They may provide backup assistance for phlebotomy, if needed.
 

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

• Regularly communicates with technical director/medical director any issues or concerns that could impact patient results.

• Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner and encourages teamwork within and outside the laboratory.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education / Experience:

• Must meet the CLIA testing personnel qualifications for High complexity testing
• Must obtain their MLT or MT certification within two years of employment.

• Associate Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physical Sciences and at least 24 hours:
  • Six semester hours of Chemistry
  • Six semester hours of Biology
  • Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
