Job Description
The Hawley lab is hiring a research assistant to support multiple ongoing research projects on infectious disease in songbirds. The hire will support ongoing experiments by assisting with data collection in the research vivarium, field, and lab. In addition, the research assistant will contribute to organization of research supplies, contribute to daily animal care and health checks of research animals, help with database entry, and oversee maintenance of the lab state-owned vehicle. Other general duties include ordering of research supplies, and contributing to hiring of undergraduate students that assist with research operations in the lab. The applicant will ideally have experience working with wild birds in either a field or captive setting. This position will be 36 hours per week with benefits.
Required Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in biology or related discipline (wildlife)
-Hands-on research experience with wild vertebrates (in the field or captivity)
-Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
-Strong working knowledge of computer programs such as Excel
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team
-Must have driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
-Prior experience caring for and handling captive songbirds
-Completion of IACUC and/or Hokiemart training
