The Tennessee River Gorge Trust (TRGT) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Land and Access Manager. TRGT is a 501(c)(3) land trust in Chattanooga, TN that works to conserve the Tennessee River Gorge through land protection and stewardship while also providing diverse opportunities for the community to engage with and explore the gorge. The role of the Land and Access Manager is multi-faceted, and this individual will work in a wide variety of areas. The primary responsibilities will relate to conservation-based land management and the provisioning and management of outdoor recreation opportunities on TRGT lands. This position will also work with the Research and Stewardship Coordinator on research projects and forest management initiatives. Although direct experience is preferred, we encourage interested applicants to apply; we understand that some of the listed skills and experiences will be developed on the job. A willingness and eagerness to learn new skills is critical to this position. Salary commensurate with experience. A full benefits package which includes health insurance, vacation and sick leave, 403(b) contributions, and life insurance is provided.

Land Management

  • Help create land management plans and implement infrastructure improvements for TRGT properties
  • Manage GIS database and utilize GIS to maintain digital records of TRGT property boundaries and project areas
  • Lead field staff and seasonal employees in land management activities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with adjacent landowners
  • Maintain property boundary lines
  • Oversee maintenance of equipment
  • Inventory and manage ordering of land management supplies
  • Assist in pursuing funding opportunities for land management activities
  • Assist the Research and Stewardship Coordinator with research and stewardship activities
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Public Access

  • Manage TRGT public access areas including but not limited to trail systems, campgrounds, climbing access, and caving access
  • Manage and implement public access infrastructure additions and improvements
  • Assist with the coordination of community programs in the Tennessee River Gorge
  • Work with community members and partner organizations to identify public access priorities
  • Create outdoor recreation maps using GIS
  • Assist with pursuing funding for public access improvements
  • Work with partners to provide access to the Tennessee River Gorge with the goal of promoting diversity and inclusivity
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Public Communications and Marketing

  • Represent TRGT at public speaking events and media appearances
  • Help create content for TRGT public communications such as newsletters, social media posts, and blogs

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, biology, outdoor recreation management, or other related fields
  • Must have a valid US driver’s license
  • Professional work experience in a related field
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work in difficult terrain and inclement weather
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Familiarity with hand powered tools
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Experience with GIS
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to frequently move up to 50 lbs
