Job Summary: Chippewa Nature Center (CNC) is seeking a Land Maintenance Technician with a passion for working outdoors, managing land for healthy ecosystems, and creating positive experiences for all people. This person will work directly with a team of motivated professionals to maintain and restore healthy, diverse ecosystems at CNC and throughout the region. In addition to using a variety of land management practices, this person will assist with the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with trails, grounds maintenance and land management
• Assist with equipment maintenance and repairs
• Provide program support (setting up for rentals and festivals, repairing program props, etc.)
• Safely and efficiently remove invasive exotic plants using brush saws, daubing techniques, backpack sprayers, tank sprayers and brush hog
• Assist with opening and shutting gates.
• Assist with facilities maintenance
• Be an engaged member of the CNC team by participating in trainings, meetings, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of experience, including hands-on work with some or all of the following: operating equipment, performing mechanical repairs, land management, and carpentry
• Ability to safely operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, including tractors, chainsaws, and brush saws.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (cold, heat, humidity, rain, snow, etc.) while tolerating poison ivy, snakes, biting and stinging insects, and thorns
• Possess basic plant identification skills, including regional invasive exotic plants
• Possess or acquire necessary chemical use licenses and ability to follow chemical safety protocol
• Physically able to meet the demands of maintenance tasks. The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move 75 lbs.
• Possess or acquire certification in CPR and first aid
• Possess a valid driver’s license

Reports To: Director of Land and Facilities

Status: Full-time, permanent

Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm with occasional weekends

Salary & Benefits: Salary range $34,000-36,000 based on experience and education, health insurance, 403(b) contribution, paid holidays, paid sick time and paid vacation, CNC membership, 20% discount in Nature Center Store, 10% off registered program fees
