Qualified candidates bring a strong natural resource background such as forest ecology/forestry, ecology, wildlife, or fisheries biology, and a minimum of three years experience in land conservation, stewardship, resource planning or a related field. The Land Steward must have very strong organizational skills. The ability to communicate effectively, personably, and diplomatically with landowners and the public is critical, as is the ability to contribute to a positive, team-oriented working environment. Knowledge of the ecology of Southwest Oregon, familiarity with the region, experience working with a land trust and conservation easement properties, training in cultural competency, Wilderness First Aid/Responder, and Spanish language skills are preferred. In addition, the candidate must possess the following:
- Attention to detail. Ability to work accurately, independently, and efficiently.
- Ability to act assertively and with tact to find positive solutions to potential or actual conflicts.
- Proficiency with computer operations and programs including Word, Excel and GIS.
- Field experience including proficiency in navigation using GPS, map, compass, and apps.
- Willingness to represent the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy to members, donors, landowners, and the public with integrity.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license with full liability car insurance coverage.
- Capacity to walk off-trail on steep and rugged terrain.
- Passion for protection of open spaces, natural areas, and working lands.
