Position Description:

We seek a motivated and detail-oriented Land Stewardship Coordinator to join our team. This position will play a vital role at BLT, supporting the organization’s care of the over 1,250 acres of natural areas it is charged with stewarding. We are looking for an individual seeking to grow professionally in the conservation field while supporting the continued growth of our successful land stewardship program. Self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to build relationships are key to this role. Candidates must have a strong belief in and support for land conservation.

The role reports to the Director of Land Stewardship and works collaboratively with the other BLT staff as needed. This position is full-time (40 hours/week).

The Land Stewardship Coordinator will collaborate with the Director of Land Stewardship to:

• Develop and implement land management plans and various ongoing needs through weekly volunteer stewardship projects, independent work, community groups, and other creative means – themes include but are not limited to habitat improvement, trail building/maintenance, burn piles, storm damage response, litter clean-ups, etc.;
• Monitor fee-owned conservation properties and conservation restrictions (CRs) on schedule, keep up to date records and reports, and take action on property issues;
• Oversee safe operations and maintenance of BLT vehicle, tools, and equipment;
• Plan, organize and run volunteer recruitment, training, and celebration events;
• Build and foster ongoing partnerships with local schools, municipal entities, and community organizations to develop and implement programs meeting mutual needs;
• Manage databases related to volunteer management, land stewardship, new acquisitions, etc. (ArcGIS, LANDSCAPE, Microsoft Office Suite);
• Support mentorship and guidance of AmeriCorps service member(s) and intern(s) to support BLT objectives while providing enriching professional development experiences;
• Assist with interdepartmental organization needs as they arise.

Position Qualifications:

• Combination of one to three years of experience in natural resource stewardship and volunteer coordination;
• Valid driver’s license and comfortability driving a pickup truck. Experience driving a trailer is desired, but not required;
• Experienced in safe operation and repair of various power tools including motorized cutting equipment such as chainsaws, brushcutters, and mowers;
• Ability to work outdoors across steep and uneven terrain in variable weather conditions, with risk of exposure to ticks and poison ivy, and carrying up to 25 pounds;
• Skilled communicator with enthusiastic approach to interacting with a wide variety of people and developing positive relationships, including conflict resolution at times;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, managing multiple, complex projects simultaneously from start to finish in a fast-paced environment;
• Strong writing, interpersonal skills and volunteer coordination experience
• Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills;
• Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers preferred;
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may occasionally include weekends and/or evening events;
• Proficiency with computer applications for managing land stewardship operations (ArcGIS, LANDSCAPE, and MS Office preferred);
• Basic knowledge of local flora and fauna;
• Connections to Cape Cod and AmeriCorps preferred;
• Interest in growing within the role and the organization and a passion for the mission and goals of Barnstable Land Trust.

This position reports to the Director of Land Stewardship. Flexible schedule for 40 hours per week with a combination of remote and in-office time. Salary commensurate with experience ($50,000-60,000). Preferred start date is August 17, 2026.
